I'm tapering for my last race of the season, which is a HIM on Sunday. Here's hoping that my level of grumpiness is in some proportion to race performance. Good reminder of why I do this triathlon thing. All this energy needs to go somewhere, at least most of the time its in a positive direction.

So, for anyone else tapering, yes, your edginess is normal. Because, of course, I'm normal!

last week was taper and I was all sorts of out of it. Mentally just no good. Thank goodness its back at it after the race on monday for the final stretch before the HIM at the end of the month.

Good luck and tapers are no fun but they do make you perform better.

Everytime I see a taper thread it reminds me of this oldie:

Now, if you can get the song out of your head, you are doing better then me.

Good luck taperers!!

kmac -- you sure seemed to be in a good mood at the pool Monday when you hopped in and out for a quick 1000 yards! Wink Meanwhile, I toiled away for another 30 minutes... Seriously though, I know what you mean: grumpy = usually good. I'm feeling edgy too, but mostly because my legs still hurt from Monday evening's bike ride. Kick some butt on Sunday!

You may find your taper plan changing from week to week, based on how your body responds to the actual taper.

I'm tapering this week for my first sprint triathlon. I'm thinking I may need to adjust my calorie intake for the decreased workout load? How do I make sure I am properly fueled for the race?

Are these races too close together to give me any sort of recovery? Will I be spent and unhappy racing back to back weekends and then again two weeks after that?

If you haven’t done any bricks yet, this isn’t the time to start piling them on, but here are some examples you could do in the lead up to your race.

We did really well with the beers, which will explain my reluctance to get out of bed on Saturday morning.
