Where did you live and how did you do? Did the heat crush you on the bike and the run or just the run? I'm debating on signing up and using this for a B race, then racing IMKY again for my A race.

I did IMTX in 2012. I live in Texas. And I wasn't heat trained for the race. The issue with IMTX for pretty much everyone is that you can't get any heat training before the race. Seriously two weeks before the race I was riding in long sleeves and pants. Nuts.

The heat didn't crush me on the bike, but I also don't ride that fast. I was OK on the run, but I don't run fast either.

I did see a lot of people suffering on race day because of the heat though. Lots of people on the ground during the run with medical people around them.

I wander why they don't move it back a month

Because there is an Ironman branded half in Galveston in April.
They know they can make money at both. Plenty of athletes do both races. Galveston is a big draw because it is early in the year and flat.

I live in Houston. I have been out there volunteering/support every year but will not do this race until they change the date AND venue.

This is true.  Plus if you take away the heat you take a lot of the teeth out of the course.  On the surface the course isn't as tough as CdA or IMLP, but when you add 95 degree temps it gets damn tough.

I will say I won't do this again in the near future, but I'm lying to myself.  If they don't move the venue I'll do this again at some point.

For most people, there is a story in how they came to the sport as beginners. Some of the most inspiring of those beginner tales begin with health scares.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"
