Subject: most oblivious girl ever (locker room rant)
I've read peoples' stories about weird locker room behavior on here before, but I never had a story to contribute until today!

I came in from the pool and a girl was sitting right in front of my locker, earbuds in, head down, and texting. There's about, maybe, a foot or foot and half of space between her knees and my locker. So I walked up to my locker and figured she'd slide further down the bench when she saw me. Nope. Didn't budge. I opened my locker and pulled out my towel and started drying off (was planning to run, then shower after that). Still, she's not getting the hint...just sitting there smack in front of my locker, not moving except for her fingers. Hmm. This was getting awkward. Obviously changing in view of total strangers is the norm in the locker room, but I draw the line when another person's face, and camera phone, are literally 6 inches from my butt. I briefly considered (not seriously) "accidentally" squeezing out my hair all over her, ha.

So instead I said, very politely, "hey, would you mind texting somewhere else please? I need to change and I'd like to have a little more room. Thanks.". She looked up at me with a completely blank expression, mumbled "sorry" and sauntered off. And that was that.

So weird though. By the way, the ENTIRE rest of the locker room was empty.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the logistics of this, but do you have to change standing directly in front of your locker? It was nice of the young lady to apologize.

Maybe she figured you didn't mind. Once you actually said something she moved on. It may have been in your best interest to speak up right away.

I guess I could have moved, but it seemed kind of silly to do so when I was the one with my towel, running clothes, shoes, etc. right there in the locker and she was just sitting there texting. She never messed with any locker or anything when I was there; only sat there, then walked away when I asked. I agree it was nice that she apologized.

:P Maybe she and I are both idiots, haha.

I did mention it to my husband, and he said maybe she just has really, really different standards of what constitutes enough personal space. Or more precisely, when to move to maintain personal space. Though, I think the fact that I was dripping wet from the pool would be a consideration in that. *shrug*

I'd guess 18 or 19. I work out at a university gym, so she may have been a freshman.

I dunno- she was already sitting there when you got in. Presumably she wouldn't have sat there if you were already in the locker room.

I go to a gym with a pretty crowded locker room, and often someone is sitting in front of my locker when I get back to it. I just take my stuff out and move down the bench.

This made me laugh because I had a very similar event happen yesterday in a locker room. A guy was right in front of my locker and didn't say a word while stood there dripping. After a minute I mentioned my locker was right in front of him.

It wasn't until he picked up his cane and started maneuvering through the lockers that I realized he was blind.

Doh..Guess I was the oblivious one ....

Not nearly as bad as the old dudes who feel the need to moisturize their entire naked bodies right at the bench.

Texting is just sooooooooooooo IMPORTANT, ya' know. Don't go 5 minutes without it! ...........R U there? I luv txt WTF

I don't text - it seems so lame and boring. Plus I'm too fat-fingered to operate those dinky keys.

What's the deal with this "sexting" -> "I luv yur boobz" ...............that's supposed some sorta' turn-on? That's even more lame than generic texting.

Not a problem in male locker rooms IME. We have Man Laws. No one lingers in the locker room for any other business than cleaning up.

lol if you think man laws are in effect you havent been to any gym that i have been in.... there are many times that you see the guy that:

drys off his junk with the blower
sits on the bench with his nasty butt and balls draped over the edge
stands captain morgan style in nothing while talking to the guys next to him
mine is the only lock on a locker in a room of 200 lockers, come back from a workout finding someone putting stuff in the locker next to mine.
the guy that feels it is necessary to talk to you as you get changed to work out
the guy that weights right after his shower buck naked and then proceeds to walk around for 5 min after

You forgot the guys who feel the need to stand naked in front of the mirror shaving and the ones standing naked in front of the mirror starring at themselves. That's uncomfortable......

Yeah, the truth is, I don't mind those guys at all.  There's at least 5 and maybe 10 of them at my gym.......they hang out, watch the ballgames, bullchit with everybody, and don't bother anyone.  I don't know why you have to be naked to do that, but whatever. Laughing

When I was a kid my dad would take us to the YMCA.....back then it had a men's pool and a women's pool.  In the men's pool everyone was naked.  My brother and I would always be broke up laughing.
