North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
United States
Set Up Events
70F / 21C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 30m 6s
Overall Rank = 62/107
Age Group = MC
Age Group Rank = 2/6
Pre-race routine:

Power Bar, Banana, Powerade, setup, stretch
Event warmup:

Bike 7 minutes, swim 6 minutes
Swim
  • 17m 32s
  • 700 meters
  • 02m 30s / 100 meters
Comments:

Tough getting out past breakers to first bouy. I kept to the outside ofthe large green bouys marking the swim parallel to shore which took me further out than the majority of swimmers since this wasnt mandatory. I estimate i lost 2 minutes with this mistake. OK getting back to shore although the surf made for a difficult exit out of the water. Felt good otherwise. I'll know better next time.
What would you do differently?:

Aim for the far turning bouy and use green bouys only for sighting reference.
Transition 1
  • 01m 40s
Bike
  • 40m 10s
  • 13.22 miles
  • 19.75 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt slow today, took legs 3 miles to loosen up. Not enough training on the road lately although plenty of time in trainer and spin bike. Roads mostly smooth with frequent manhole covers and occasional potholes. Nice bike route overall and they did a great job keeping traffic and intersections traffic free.
What would you do differently?:

More road training.
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

No problems.
Run
  • 30m 2s
  • 3.01 miles
  • 09m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Still slow but felt stronger on this run than I have all year. Had plenty left at the end. HR tells a different story but I think I could have pushed a little harder.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Coke, hung with teamates, left fairly quick.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Navigation error on the swim, poor speed on the bike.

Event comments:

Nice venue with perfectly located transition zone. We stayed at the host hotel righ next door to transition zone which was very nice and convenient. Good ocean swim, bike and run courses. I will definitely be back!

I went down to the beach the day before to scout out the course, and it was glorious...the sun was out, the sea was as smooth as glass, and only a hint of a breeze was blowing. “Perfect,” I thought.

As a triathlete, there is one acronym that you just can’t fathom ever having next to your name in a race report – DNF: DID NOT FINISH.
