Total Time = 4h 22m 12s
Overall Rank = 11/43
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 1/3
Event warmup:

short warm up in the water and short jog
Swim
  • 59m 14s
  • 3000 meters
  • 01m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

TT swim start which was great never hit a single person the whole race. Chop was bad at times. Used this swim as an Ironman pace swim to see where I was at it was only the 2nd time this year I have swam this far.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, could have went faster but was pleased just pacing.
Transition 1
  • 04m 48s
Comments:

took my time in T1 had to pee so bad, stopped in the port a pot and used the restroom.
What would you do differently?:

bathroom break could have easily shaved 2 minutes off T1 if I was trying to be competitive.
Bike
  • 1h 51m 17s
  • 38.2 miles
  • 20.60 mile/hr
Comments:

Did what I wanted to do held my Ironman aver. for the course. The 3rd lap was much harder with the wind picking up and heat. Course has enough hills to slow you a little, but overall good ride. No doubt if I was doing the sprint could have aver. 22-23 mph.
What would you do differently?:

nothing just stayed steady and did not work out of conversation pace.
Transition 2
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

took my time again not trying to rush T2 put on the garmin and ran with bike shoes on. Once again if this was a sprint or I was racing to win I would have cut a good 45 seconds
What would you do differently?:

nothing all prep for IM
Run
  • 1h 24m 51s
  • 9.4 miles
  • 09m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

started off good first 3 miles aver pace was 8:15, started to cramp in the VMO muscle which was a first and had to start walking. battled cramps off and on from that point. Still held a 4 hour Ironman marathon pace which was my goal so I was pleased. Very surprised with the walking and heat that I was still able to run ok.
What would you do differently?:

still recovering from injuries and plantar fasciitis. This was my second longest run since march so I will take it.
Post race
Warm down:

went and stood in the water than ate and waited on awards

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wasn't racing this event just trying to get my pacing down and wanted to see how I would run since battling foot problems.

Event comments:

Race was ok we started at 9 am and were suppose to go off at 8:20. not many port a pots which caused huge lines. Long lines a packet pick up and chip pick up. Overall nice event with lots of race options

Good job, Ron, in keeping with your conservative racing plan.   Pee in the water, for goodness sakes!   Wink     I'm glad you're back to running at a pace you're happy with.   Hope you're able to do the same at Deer Creek and then be ready to kill it in Arizona!   Keep up the smart training.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
