I seem to remember a drug using Pro cyclist named ARMSTRONG that was banned from competing in any Ironman triathlons. Why should this guy be any different? Fair is fair. A druggie is a druggie. Down with the suspensions and up with the auto lifetime bans for testing positive. That will get rid of the drugs.

Last I checked, triathlon is made up of 3 events: swimming biking and running. It doesn't bother me at all that he used to be a pro cyclist. Have you seen those guys with their shirts off? They're skeletons, I'm pretty sure none of them are strong swimmers. Starting tris, everyone has one discipline that is stronger than the others, his is even more pronounced, but he still has to train to compete in the swim and run. If he wants to compete as an AG'er, I have no problem with that. Getting beaten by him is no different that getting beaten by a great swimmer or great runner, they still have to do the rest of the race. I've been beaten by a former mountain bike pro, but it never occurred to me that he shouldn't be racing against me in a triathlon. It was fun to see him out there.

I have no issues with him racing. He served his time. Let the brow beaters cast the first stone and hope they are perfect for the rest of their lives.

I don't agree with doping but my personal view is that there is no such thing as a level playing field anyways.

On a somewhat related note - what do you think of the constant advertising of EPO-BOOST? A claimed legal way to do what blood doping is intended to do. I think it is the height of hypocrisy.

Sort of like Amgen being the title sponsor of the Tour of California?

You can call snake oil anything you want... hypocrisy is as good as useless (what I call it) I suppose.

Relative to swimmers, yes. Relative to triathletes, Armstrong knew his way around the pool.

... because he was a triathlete first, and a darn good one.

The start of the race I had the jitters. I was watching the other age groups start as they seeded the swim with over 1000 participants.
