Age Group Rank = 27/81
Pre-race routine:

Same as usual - wake up, half a bagel, natural PB. I was really worked up and couldn't force the banana down so I took it with me. Didn't eat it. 1.5 Glasses of water too.
Event warmup:

I was really worked up for this swim - even though I've done 9 other sprints this season this was the longest swim at .5 mile. I just swam 100 yards or so to warm up - and I felt fine.
Swim
  • 22m 47s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

DISASTER. I was worked up about this swim because of the number of people in my wave (I estimate 100) and the distance. It was silly and I tried to get the whole MIND OVER MATTER thing but in the end my mind lost. And I wore my wetsuit - didn't need it should not have worn it. I've worn it in races twice this season and today for some reason I felt like it was choking me. Of course it wasn't but I felt like I couldn't breathe and the first 400 yards sucked. Once I rounded the "candy corn" buoy the crowd thinned out and I was finally able to find my rhythm and swim. Of course it was too late and I had lost a ton of time. Oh well. Lesson learned.
What would you do differently?:

Don't wear the damn wetsuit unless I'll freeze without it.
Transition 1

What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Run
  • 32m 52s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

average run for me.
What would you do differently?:

I'm not sure if carrying water on shorter runs hurts me or not. I feel better having it though. Not a big fan of water in cups from water stations.

HMF always does a good job, IMO.

Congratulations!

Wearing the wet suit after a fairly long time of not needing it always makes me feel like it's going to choke me.  You did rock that ride! Smoked it!!

Maybe that's part of it - I should have swam with it sometime this week. Oh that and with 100 or so other people fighting for space LOL

Thanks

Yes, yes you do.

Look at how great you're doing on your current bike--very good engine there :)

Nice race.

It's always a toss-up for me as to whether I'm going to wear my wetsuit or not - I've had that choking feeling once before, and I hope I'll never have it again.

And yes, YOU TOTALLY ROCKED THAT BIKE!!!  Laughing

Nicely done. Keep working on the wetsuit comfort and it will become second nature.

You did a great job, and you did indeed "Rock the Ride"!

Awesome job and waita put a less than ideal swim on the back burner and tackle the rest of the race like a champ. Very important in tris.

Good race. Smoking fast bike followed by a solid run. Ah, the swim, our nemesis. Keep at it. I swear OWS will get better. Worry about being comfortable in the water and then work on speed. All these sprints are great experience and you will be stronger next year because of the work you have done this Summer.

Wow, I think our race swim write-ups will read about the same, wetsuit-wise.  I shouldn't have worn mine, either.  Oh well, you persevered and hammered out a great bike and good run.  Nice race!!

Great race!

Don't sweat the swim (go putter around a pond in the wetsuit and it will get better, if you want to use it that is - took a while for me, but now I dig swimming in it) - certainly didn't make a disaster out of the day!

And next year you'll rock both the swim and the ride - on your new tri-bike. Wink  Always time to buy a new bike!  Laughing

Congrats!

Matt

Nice race.

Switch you crossed out the wrong line Wink N+1, baby N + 1

As for the wetsuit, if it's legal, I'm wearing it. I need the bouyancy!

Glad you rocked the race, in spite of the rough start. Nice job!
