Total Time = 8h 15m 9s
Overall Rank = 559/670
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 11/16
Pre-race routine:

The event starts/finishes about 2 miles from my house so it was an easy ride into town. No hassle parking or waiting around. Got there just as the national anthem was being played and Hincapie introduced. Waited about 10 minutes until the Jamis Pro Team took off and then headed out with the first wave.
Event warmup:

No warm up other than the ride into town. First 15 miles of the ride is crowded as it is shared with cyclists doing the 3 shorter ride options. Definitely some caution needed until the pack spreads out.

Comments:

Overall course and support were outstanding. Didn't linger at the rest stops but they were well staffed and stocked. The timed climbs were challenging for this area. This is not an inexpensive ride but well worth the $$$ imo. For those not interested in the full 107 miles there are options for 60, 42 and 18.
What would you do differently?:

The last 20 miles were a struggle with hills feeling bigger at that point than they were. We skipped the final rest stop since it was only 17 miles from the finish. I had Heed and gels but couldn't make myself eat or drink much at that point. Not sure that another stop would have done much though. I just wanted to be done.
Post race
Warm down:

Nice post race party with band, good food and local vendors. For out of towners there is a bag check and shower options post race. Although I really was mentally done it was nice to be able to avoid traffic and just ride home afterwards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was not a race for me. The goal was to finish without being trashed. My longest rides going in were 75 miles and I had just enough training to finish. The last 20 miles were tough and my HR showed I was fading, quickly. As usual, my performance was a pretty good reflection of my training.

Course: The event advertises the full fondo as 8900 ft of climbing. My garmin registered a bit short of that. It is hilly for this area though. 4 timed hills for awards. Notable support...for a ride this long in NJ there is no way to avoid major roads/highways. The organizers did an amazing job of still offering a safe and beautiful route. Where intersections/crossings were unavoidable local police provided excellent safety support. Road surface varied from occasionally good to often bad. Not much to do about that here. 5 rest stops on the full fondo with women's only porta-potties. Nice touch from my point of view.

Sounds like a great ride, terrific after-ride festivities and a really solid way to add miles to your long distance training.

A win-win-win!  (ugh, did I just use the win-win-win thing??  Well, it is!Laughing
