  • 2h 40m 12s

Comments:

overall it was not a bad bike for me. Being in the lead gave me a bit too much adrenaline and i tried to hold it for two long. my legs were burnt out by mile 45. I need to find the right balance in nutrition. Next time i need to carry some bottles of water instead of all drinks loaded with sugar/salt.
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Run
  • 2h 38m 59s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 12m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

I had severe stomach issues and dehydration which cause cramping and stomach pain. This was a great learning lesson for me. I have a lot of work to do to compete at this distance.

Event comments:

Several aid stations were already run out of cold towels or water on the way back. I can't imagine what the people finishing behind me had to deal with. Myself and several friends had the run at 13.7 miles. While the RD tried to make light of it, I didn;t find it quite as funny.

This is a decent small affordable event for your first Half Iron distance race.

In addition to writing your race number on each upper arm, they also wrote your age on your calf. This allowed me to see who was passing me by in the bike section of this race.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.

This is not an easy task, especially for the “9-to-5er” with family. But you can do it – all without sacrificing your marriage, job or family.
