Hi Everyone,

I have a Half IronMan next weekend and a marathon in 5 weeks. I was planning on running 16 miles this weekend (as part of marathon training) and then tapering for my HIM and not doing a long run next weekend (doing the HIM instead). Unfortunately, I have come down with a terrible head cold and I am thinking I may be better off skipping my long run this weekend and sleeping in and resting instead to try to get healthy. I am not new at this, by any means... this will be my 7th HIM and my fourth marathon, I have a good base and I am thiking that, in the long run, missing the 16 miler this weekend is not a big deal. I'm just hoping to get some input from the BT community on this.

Thanks

Better to recover from cold than to have it linger and effect both races.

I would definitely skip the long run. The base is already there and the only possible effect will be to tire yourself out and delay your recovery from the cold. My experience with head colds has been that if you take the rest, it generally stays in the head, often clears up within a week, and even if it doesn't. the effect on your race will be minimal. If you don't rest, it's much more likely to get into your chest and take much longer to get over.

I can't see it any other way.  It's just a training run, and just one among many.  You're far better served taking care of you.
