Showed up this morning for a small sprint tri that I have done the past 3 years. I could have sworn that I had registered for this thing 9 months ago.... so busy with life, kids & packing for the event that I forgot to make sure that I was REGISTERED! Was told that there is no race day registration and it's full. How embarrassing & stupid.... This was suppose to be the perfect close to the season for me. Guess i'll have to learn from this and move on. AGGRRR!!

Bummer.

Maybe you need to go out and do a "home grown sprint" like the guy who posted about his "home grown IM" last week.

Yes!! I plan on doing one this week. I feel so "incomplete" if I go out this way... Accept and move on.

I've actually done the opposite:  I entered a 5K race online early, forgot I did, and then entered again a couple of weeks before the race.  When I showed up at packet pick-up they had two swag bags and sets of numbers under my name.  Obviously I felt pretty dumb.  It was a charity race, so at least my entry fees went to a good cause.

I had a similar situation but I pleaded with the race director and they were able to get me in.

Tell them you flew from across the country to compete in the triathlon.

Thanks for the responses! I tried to cry and everything, but they weren't about to let me in.

I did my own olympic to end the season in 2011 because the race was cancelled by WTC. It became an epic thread here. I am about due for my third annual. I tried to open it up to "registration" this year for anyone doing their homemade courseI'd make them a finisher's patch, but no one has actually taken me up on it. (Donate to a charity I named, and I send a patch.) --

you could volunteer - at least you are there and involved, even if you didn't get to race

Similar thing happened to me recently. I thought I had registered, but then about two weeks before the race it occurred to me that I didn't. No big deal, other than the fact that they full By the end of the day I try and look for the bright Side, but I'm having trouble finding one. The next day I dislocated my shoulder at work and it its still not healed for swimming or biking. Now the bright side is that I didn't register for a rave that would be a DNS!l

Whenever I'm at table to get my packet and it takes more than a second, I'm always nervous I screwed something up. So far the only screw up has been signing my wife up as a male.

A buddy of mine signs up for races really early and never seems to know his next upcoming race.  The day before Labor Day, he learned at bike check-in (mind you he had already been through packet pickup) the he had signed up for the olympic.  He was walking with his bike through the sprint racks and couldn't find his number.  He did very little training this summer and was planning on the sprint.
