One of, if not THE, toughest sprints in the state. Some say in the SW.

But it's still a sprint distance. I'll see you out there?

Bartlett was the first triathlon I ever competed in (back in 2010 it was held in March). That is a brutal course, but a great accomplishment for all who have raced it.

Awesome. That's what I'm hearing. Probably could use more prep time but it is what it is. Going to do my best.

Got the official email last night. If congress does not fund the national parks/forest workers by tomorrow afternoon the race this Sunday will be cancelled. They would then shoot for October 20th if funding is approved by October 16/17. If not, no race this year.

And Soma is October 20th. So it's not looking good. I'm still training as if it will happen but from what I've read this morning it is unlikely.

I'm working on it! Got sick a few weeks ago and aiming towards Leadman. Really want to do this sprint! It would be my 1st time doing this race. Signed up for the swim only back in '10 to get that ows experience. I was glad I didn't sign up for the whole thing, at that time!

I hope you feel better, and good luck in your training! Bartlett lake looks beautiful, and looks like a good training day. I am just hoping to finish! It should be fun. Best of luck for Leadman.

Thanks! If I can pull it together for Bartlett, we should meet up!

I've been wanting to do the Bartlett race for years and now I will. I'm doing the sprint this year. I'm not certain I will ever do the Oly. I don't want to climb those hills twice in the same race. It is the hardest sprint and oly in the state, no doubt about that. Even the swim is uphill. See you there...

I'm happy for you! Let's hope for some good weather. I'm doing the Oly, just hoping to finish. It's going to be tough.

not to scare anyone off, but I think Bartlett is the coldest of the Phoenix lakes too. I did the OLY back in 2009 and have to agree that is the hardest OLY in the state.

the good news is, once you do this race - - most all others seem easier!

This week a friend swam at Bartlett and the water temp was 58ยบ. The lake level is very low making the run from the water to the transition area a long one.

It was fun, but I feel cheated - yes, the water level was very low, and the hike up to transition was no fun, but what was upsetting is that the RD had trouble getting the buoys in place, and the Oly swim distance was MUCH shorter than advertised - an educated guess based on my 310xt in my swim hat, my swim time, and knowing how much I was off course because of visibility problems (sun), I would estimate the swim distance was no more than 900m.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

I signed up for a Sprint in July, an Olympic distance in September, and the Alcatraz tri in October. If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it all the way.

This program should be used for an athlete who is new to duathlon and their goal is to complete a sprint duathlon without difficulty. The schedule consists of 3 workouts per week in each sport.

"I was wondering if this is a sensible approach? Should I get "better" on short distance and then move to something longer or do what I want if I feel I can do it whatever the time?"
