Set Up Events
Total Time = 1h 35m 7s
Overall Rank = 4/203
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 1/11
Pre-race routine:

Woke up reeeeeally early and drove 1.5 hours to the event location. at breakfast in the car on the way at 80mph.
Event warmup:

ran for 10 minutes with the last half at race pace. swam a few hundred yards to get a feel for the water and visibility.
Swim
  • 18m 57s
  • 1000 meters
  • 01m 54s / 100 meters
Comments:

the swim went really easy, all was going great til we rounded the last buoy and the steam coming off the water and the rising sun in our faces made the finish/shore completely invisible. i stopped swimming several times to try and figure out if i was even going the right way.
What would you do differently?:

scout the course better and understand where the sun would be for the morning swim. knowing landmarks to the side of me would have helped navigate the last turn.
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

went ok. haven't had to deal with a wetsuit in a while and this was still on par with my other T1's, maybe even a little faster.
What would you do differently?:

nada
Bike
  • 50m 44s
  • 21 miles
  • 24.84 mile/hr
Comments:

i thought the course was a little deceptive. lot of false flats and the "climbs" were much longer than the descents. i went into the race with a average power i wanted to hit... and ended up 20 watts lower. oh well, didn't really feel like i could have or wanted to go too much harder. my HR was much lower than my other races though.
What would you do differently?:

maybe push a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 00m 40s
Comments:

went smooth. nothing notable to mention.
Run
  • 23m 53s
  • 7 kms
  • 03m 25s  min/km
Comments:

first off... i didn't run a 5:29 pace for 4.35 miles, the course was a little short. 6:05-6:15ish is more realistic.

ok... now onto my thoughts. i really liked the out and back format. you knew where you sat position wise, and you knew what you had to do at the turn around. went ok for me, didn't pass anyone, but i didn't get passed either.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

talked with the open guys who finished before me and drank some water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

sore legs all week, my bike should have been faster

Event comments:

Fun course, great race. I would do it again.

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

A product review of the Louis Garneau Tri Air Triathlon Shoe. After nearly two years of testing, see how this shoe performed. Currently being replaced by the Tri Air 2.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.

We did really well with the beers, which will explain my reluctance to get out of bed on Saturday morning.
