Set Up Events
75F / 24C
Overcast
Total Time = 3h 11m 15s
Overall Rank = 426/509
Age Group = 31-34
Age Group Rank = 30/33
Pre-race routine:

Because money is a bit tight right now and the race was only 65 miles away, I opted to drive in the morning of - the 9am start really helped with that - normally i'm not a ran of later ones, but in this instance it worked well

breakfast was Oatmeal eaten while driving in - so my body had time to process it - I arrived at the race site at 7am, so had 2 hours to get prepared
Event warmup:

was wavering between wearing wetsuit and not, so jumped in the lake without and decided it was warm enough...

warm-up including walking route from water exit to bike without glasses (since blind as bat without them), and a lite swim
Swim
  • 31m 44s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 07s / 100 meters
Comments:

much improved over my last Oly swim; water was murky, but not bad, no appreciable current
What would you do differently?:

need new goggles!

I hung to the back since it was a larger wave - should have been more to the front and out on the side - would have had a better first 200m - it took a while to get past some of the swimmers and get into a good rhythm
Transition 1
  • 03m 11s
Comments:

decent run from the swim exit to the bike, which probably added some time. But I had everything laid out and ready to go - total time actually switching from swim to bike was probably 1:30...
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 1h 29m 27s
  • 42 kms
  • 28.17 km/hr
Comments:

really liked this ride, the hills were challenging at times, and easy at others - a true rolling course. It also seemed really fast - I hit the 15m point at 48 minutes (normally, I would hit it at closer to the 60 minute point).
What would you do differently?:

do some more hill training
Transition 2
  • 03m 4s
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 1h 03m 50s
  • 10 kms
  • 06m 23s  min/km
Comments:

run started out on an uphill - so I ran the first part, then walked a bit which helped, no major muscle cramps coming off the bike; stuck with my run/walk routine through the race
What would you do differently?:

reduce time walking a little bit - I needed to do better at setting places to run/walk after my breaks, and walking mroe with a purpose - I started to meander a bit in places; but this was a significant improvement over my last run in a race
Post race
Warm down:

stretching following the race, and lite walk/jog

Event comments:

Set-Up Events always does a great job - well manned aid stations and lots of volunteers to help

Knowing where the fluids are, how they will fit on your bike, how much to reach for, and when to reach for it should be understood prior to ever setting foot on the course.
