Subject: Offseason running programs
Since Augusta was the wrap on my season, I'm reflecting on this year and what I need to work on. My run needs some serious attention. A lot of my friends swear by the Barry P's slowtwitch offseason running program. I am curious to hear what others experiences are. What has really amped up your run from one season to the other? What has taken your running to another level?

I would not say that it has made me fast. I am actually super slow. However, running a jan or feb run has been a lot of fun for me. A second season or second A race makes the winter fun. I don't worry about the time as much as my A tri.... but I really do not do a whole lot of time fretting anyway.

I did the Barry P approach last year and can give it high marks.   It was really hard to be disciplined with the approach.   Running 6 days a week, even with shorter runs, is not easy.  Also, you have to slow down because you are running every day.  I did not move to phase two of Barry P, but the base approach was very successful.

So, you may be wondering, why did he not move to the next phase?  Well, I found it really hard to run six days, bike 3 days and swim 3 days.   For me, I did not balance it out.

Thanks for the advice. My foot is still hurting a little from Augusta so I'm giving it another week to heal up before I start.

I have used the BarryP plan and strongly recommend it. Using the program I increased my run mileage significantly. I was able to drop my 1/2 HIM time from 2:09 to 1:52 in a period of 8 months. 17 minutes is a tremendous gain. I gave up 3 minutes on the bike so a net time decrease of 14 minutes.
