Maybe I'm just not looking right, but I do'nt see any tris in the Houston area after October. Really? Am I just not checking the right websites? With my first tri coming up, I hate to have a long break before the next... need the continuous motivation!

It is the end of the season.

My last tri for the season was last Sunday.

Ready for the break, I did 9 Tri's this season and a few other "races" in there too.

2 months to train now for a marathon.

Look into some Duathlons they usually run later in the year.

Are duathlons more competitive? Might be fun of they are supportive like trail runners or the tris I've supported. Not a fan of the alpha male attack events.

There will be a ton of running races out there.  Plus the season starts here pretty early.  It gives you time to pinpoint weaknesses and get better.

understand, but that's not the question. Road races tend to be large, faceless events with little personality and a lot of rudeness (for lack of a better term). the smaller events lit sprint and oly tris seem to have more friendly and supportive faces. Check out a Tejas Trails trail endurance run. those people know how to support a runner!

so I was wondering if duathlons tended to be more like big events or more relaxed and fun. I guess it depends on the event, but generally it's fair to categorize an event with 5000participants as faceless.

it's still amusing that the tri season is ending in texas. some people start early, others late, so the number of personal events is irrelevant. the water isn't really that cold, esp with wetsuits. Heck, a winter challenge series would actually be fun!

Awesome attitude toodamnbroke!

I am kinda glad tri season is over now, just 1 marathon to do in December and a nice well deserved break.

Yeah, Oilman is the last tri until C Different in March. There is the Du the Polar Bear duathlon in February. You'll most get triathletes at that race, so it'll be a similar atmosphere. It just gets too cold to swim. I was planning on doing some of the training rides for MS150. I don't plan on doing the MS150, but a lot of these rides are quality events in their own right. (sag supported, police at intersections, aid stations, etc). Most are not timed, but for can be a lot of fun.

The is also a HITS duathlon at the F1 track in Austin in December. 2.5/14/2.5 I think it will be a unique experience.

and

Its a bit of a drive, but I think I will put them on the list for next year. If nothing else but to get a jersey like that.

I did the one in Denton a few years back.  Fun race.  I did however make the mistake of not drying my feet off before getting on the bike.  It was cold enough that my feet went numb about 3 miles in to the ride.  LOL

No, I won't be doing the MS-150. It's not that I wouldn't like to, but with two small kids I have limited away time so I'd rather do a couple of tris than do the MS-150.

im with you im skipping it next year. I am already used to a timed race and I wont be spending/raising that much for a bike ride.

there are still a few sprints:

Oct.13 Oktoberfest Tri
Oct.20 Try Andy's Tri
Oct.27 CDifferent Tri

before Oilman

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

The off-season is the best time to fine tune your skills and prepare yourself for the next season. It is also time for you to gain some strength and get a little rest after a long season of training.

If you develop a strategy for the off-season, you can go into the next season stronger than you ended the past season.
