17C / 63F
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 11m
Overall Rank = 147/513
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 33/67
Pre-race routine:

Cleaned bike chain, pumped up the tyres and get everything a quick check over
Swim
  • 08m 20s
  • 414 meters
  • 02m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

Official swim time was 8:35 but that includes the run from the pool to the timing mat.
Spent all year concentrating on the IM distance race and learning to pace at 2:00/100m, plus I didn't really do much training in the month in-between that I seem to have become stuck at that pace!
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time in the pool relearning to swim at a faster pace
Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

Time includes run from pool to T1 and T1 to mount line. Official T1 time was 1:27.
Noticed that I'd managed to get my race belt twisted when putting the number on and I actually paused for a few seconds to work out what was wrong!
What would you do differently?:

Either make sure the race belt is straight or not worry about it
Bike
  • 36m 57s
  • 11.54 miles
  • 18.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Went pretty well, though HR was higher than I would have liked
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Includes 20 sec run from mount line to T2
What would you do differently?:

Fairly average T2 time
Run
  • 21m 49s
  • 2.8 miles
  • 07m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't expect the run to go too well and it pretty much didn't. Pace was at least 20secs per mile slower than I would have expected for the effort/HR
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough training in the month between IM race and this one

On August 31 I officially became a triathlete. With a big day ahead of me I went to bed early the night before. I woke up at 4:45 am. I was full of energy and ready to go!
