Never done a Tri on my new TT bike...

I know on a road bike I always got checked to make sure I had plugs in my handlebars for safety. Are they also required for your aerobar extensions? I changed out the cockpit on my bike and the rubber inserts from my old extensions were too big for my new ones, so I have it as pictured below. Is this OK?

Sorry it's upside down... not sure why tinypic is not cooperating!!

I'm sure those are fine. The reason why the handlebar ends need to be plugged (so I've heard) was that a while back someone didn't have them plugged. He crashed, and the handlebar bore a hole in his leg like an apple corer. So it's a safety thing, and that picture you provided doesnt look like it would do an apple coring in your leg if you crashed

Should be fine, the rule is intended to address the forward and drop bar ends, since they are exposed and could contact an athlete in a crash.

If a ref sees that, you'll have to find something to fix them. That (in the essence of the rule at least) is dangerous TO YOU. buy some rubber/plastic ones that fit the diameter of those extensions and drill a hole in them for the cable to come out.

You might get away with it forever, but I've seen people get called on it day of the race before.

also, get rid of that steerer tube and those adjusters

Looks like a nifty place to store nutrition with zero added drag.

Home Depot rubber grommets - already have a hole to pass cables through

The rule is not just for forward facing aero bars--it applies to mountain bikes and the drops on road bikes too. I've heard the stories but never really believed it would be that bad until the end of my handlebars tried to smash my finger in half--it busted wide opened and looked like the shiny white end of a chicken leg before it got stiched up.
Warning: graphic image but not the most graphic image of what happened to my finger.

My problem is I can only swim about 30-40 meters without having to rest. What is the best way to improve this? I need to get from 40 to 750 meters in 6 months.
