looking for anyone or group who does open water swims near Pearland. Would like to have a place besides pool to practice.

Me thinks open water will help my swim distances increase...

Twin lakes RV was nice this morning. A little intimidating to swim alone tho. If anyone swims there and wouldn't mind company, at least there'd be someone to call me next of kin! Anyone?

They are open weekdays morning? I thought they don't open until 2pm , and only opens in AM of weekends.
Would be nice if they are open in am of weekdays.

If your concerned because of safety most of the swimmers i see use this:

while swimming alone.

Twin lakes basically is open whenever. Put ur money in the mailbox and go. But frankly the memorial next to the swim entrance was too Deliverance for me alone, so I bailed. Hit 288lake this afternoon instead-they open at 3.

Very glad I decided to do some open water swims before the event!

Cdiff. Andy's has competitive cutoffs and clearly states don't enter if u won't make them.
As this is my first tri, I'm going with one I can enjoy and not dnf due tto being slow.

You are right they do have individual cut offs for the sprint, never really came to me all the sprints i attended only have a friendly overall cut off and i never saw someone DNF.

Anyway Man i have a list for next years Sprints that have friendly cut offs.

Cheers

Carlo

Bro

Being a Pearland local like you, I suggest the following races:

ShadowCreek Ranch Tri- July 13 2014
500m/16mi/3mi
This is in my back yard and really embarrassed I did not do this year.
no cut off, finish whenever , the lake is only 5 ft. deep you can run it if you want to and still finish.

Silverlake Tri- May 25 2014
500m/10mi/3mi
She did not do it this year dont know the reason.
According to the RD's email to me she got Silverlake's HOA approval for Sunday of Memorial day next year
so I assume its May.25
Cut off is very doable i believe.

YMCA Freedom Tri- normally Last Sunday of June
300m/11mi/3mi
Its a pool swim just let them know your pacing i remember they told me they dont mind if its 4:00/100 yds.
Cut is just 2:30-3:00 hrs to finish.

Outside of Pearland at Cypress i know Bridgeland Tri is on Aug.3
link is here:
http://www.onurmark.net/#!bt-registration/c19ih
550/12.8mi/3.1mi , the swim pacing is ok at 4:00/100m, but with the bike have to be a little bit faster 15 mph,
you will be fine on the run.

Bro you can make it up to me to let me know if you know any run trails in Pearland.

I actually volunteered at the silverlake tri last year and wondered what happened to it.
This year I've been taking my son to do the tejastrails runs. austin area is so nice. Just did paleface and will do wildhare soon. Lot of ultra runner do the long dist but we stick to 10k. I mentioned n other post to ping htrex for trails. I know they to hochimin in memorial. But like you I tool around my neighborhood mostly. But I'm looking for more, too

dont know what happend to Silverlake I know its not the HOA, Ms.Gaye must be busy.

Here's another one outside of Houston , I am sure if you dont mind driving to Austin You dont mind the Woodlands.

CB & Tri Triathlon
May 30 2014
500m/15mi/3mi
Registration Opens Jan 1 2014
This one is known to close out registration fast I would register as soon as it opens.
http://www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/index.aspx?NID=306
Cut offs are: 6:00/100m,12 mph,15min/mi , should be very easy for us.

A few of us were at 288 this weekend...definitely a lot of vegetation. We managed to figure out where the larger patches of it were and stayed away. It's harmless, but very annoying!

I hope so. It really freaked us out at first. Finally, we just dealt with it, but I would prefer not to swim with it. Yuck!

I really need to get a swim today

so i have no choice but try TwinLakes of Manvel. The lake is ok in general cheaper significantly less vegetation than 288 and they have running water to shower off lake water and clean wetsuits. There is something about the lake giving me the feeling of swimming all alone out there.
