Pre-race routine:

sit in car and try to stay warm. The wind made it feel like right around freezing.

Building up to the run I finally got out to do some light jogging.

Comments:

This course is crazy to begin. mix in 25+ mph winds and a temp of sub 40's it get wild. I spent a good part of the race sitting around the 6-7 slot . the lake segment comes into play around mile 7- or 8. It was at this point where i really started to feel some fatigue from battling the wind. coming out of that there is a waterstation that a stopped to grab some drinks and was passed, I would catch up and draft these runners for most of the race and basically keep them close but i just could not pull them in. finished with a decent kick, which i could not do 2yrs ago do to knee issues. so all and all felt good. Most challenging run i do. love it.
What would you do differently?:

not much, if anything I just need a few more hours on rolling hills or more time at tranquility to burn the legs.
Post race
Warm down:

sat in car and warmed a bit

What limited your ability to perform faster:

just training if anything and yeah 20mph wind!!!!!

Event comments:

great challenge both physical and mental,

I just ran the Boston Marathon under nine minute miles, can I run eight minute miles for my half Ironman training runs? Or should I go slower?

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.

This program should be used for an athlete whose goal is to run a marathon in the 1:30-2:30 range and has a good running base in the past 8-12 weeks.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.
