Subject: Who is running the Monumental?
Earlier this year I marked the Monumental as my first marathon attempt as some friends/ fellow triathletes had signed up for it. Getting close now! Is the course really flat or is that a fib?

Also find it interesting there is another marathon a couple weeks before, just had a friend tell me he was running Indy. I said "oh the Monumental" and he says nope one before that one.

I am just a couple hours west on I 74 in Illinois, to far for morning of drive though. Coming Friday night to check out the expo and get ready!

I'll be there. I ran it last year as my first marathon. Hopefully it is a bit warmer this time around, it was 30 degrees last year and started sleeting around mile 23. Other than the weather, I thought it was well ran and I had a good time. I think there was a false flat somewhere near mile 15-18, but honestly, barely worth mentioning. It's as flat as you'll get.

If you plan on eating downtown near the expo after you pick up your packet, plan on waiting for table. It was quite busy and we ended up having to go to a few places before we could find a reasonable waiting time.

There is the Indy Marathon also that goes thru Ft Ben and there is 1 steep hill in that, but the Monumental is as flat as flat can get over 26 miles. Have a GREAT day! I might be there cheering on a few friends so if you're in your T3 garb, I'll recognize you and holler!

If it is chilly I will prob leave the T3 tri top at home that said I will wear my T3 running hat for sure. There maybe a few of us as several from my tri club are running between the 1/2 and full. Looking forward to it, but also nervous already......

Anybody know anything about parking? Just got an email asking me to buy a parking spot. Nice. If my hotel is close enough maybe I can just pay to stay in the hotel parking garage...

I parked in the underground garage, the same one I used for Tri Indy with no problems. There is a ton of parking in the immediate area, I can't imagine having an issue.

After I got the parking email I called my hotel. They have a garage, $23 a day which covers 24 hours. If I arrive in the afternoon I can leave it until after the race. The expo is .75 miles and the race is under .5 miles. Probably wont move the car until I head home.

3 hours 46 minutes. I thought it went great for my first marathon. The temp was good, head wind whipped up toward the end but wasnt to bad. I thought it was a good race and would go again.

Congratulations on your first mary!

I ran the monumental in 2011 and it was a really great race.  I would likely do it again if I chose to do another marathon.

I can train for half marathons on pavement and on trails, but as soon as I change it up to gravel or loose dirt my knee swells and the pain it causes is unreal. Any ideas why this happens?

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.
