Saddened but unfortunately not surprised to learn that Ryder Hesjedal has admitted to doping. While I would still like to believe that he won the Giro clean and that cycling is cleaner now than it was, with so many of the old guard still involved (competing, coaching, DSing, as doctors, trainers, etc) the harder it is to believe cycling has turned a corner. So many of his cohorts from his mountain biking era had. And he was a Postal rider, etc. etc. Even if he won the Giro clean, I still can't respect that. I actually don't think it is possible to be completely "clean" now. He took a lot of gains from doping and he took opportunities from clean riders, so that's why I don't think he can ever be "clean". I guess this just hits closer to home because some of those riders are my friends. |

I agree; while I understand that many athletes felt they had no choice but to dope, I feel bad for those who made the right choice and as a result were not able to compete on the biggest stages. As a result of choosing to live according to the rules of their sport, they were left unable to compete at the highest levels or toil away in obscurity for those who were cheating. Shane |

Safe to say, as long as we've had competition in the world, someone has tried to find a way to get an unfair advantage. |
