Gene - that is exactly how I got started on the race.  This will be my 5th year doing it.   You get your azz kicked by this race and it wakes up to the fact there are only a few months until tri races start.   It kind of marks the start of the hard work needed to race...hope you pull the trigger today.

Same here … think they must have pre-sold many of the limited slots they have. I believe that the park service only allows a small amount registrants which presents them with a tight collar.

Doing the Xterra trail run series over here in Birmingham this weekend - put on by Atlanta based Dirty Spokes Productions (quality race organization) - if you want to join us O' Captain, my captain.

Ah, well heck - I was hoping to meet the Georgia BT contingent. Logged on right at 10am and got me and Ms. Tankboy registered - so we are in. Anybody else make it?

Don't train solely on the pavement trying to manage to a specific HR......especially for a 11.5 mile trail run, or else you are in for a surprise. I missed out this year as well. Now I don't HAVE to keep the distance runs going. YEAH for me.

It is called Thrill In The Hills...second best trail race in GA and still open for registration!   I signed up yesterday during my pity party for missing RTR.

Thanks for the reminder on Thrill in the Hills, Captin - just got us signed up for the half.

Hopefully it will rain buckets right up until race start just like like last year.

That actually really was a very fun race!

I saw this thread just in time to register and secure a spot. Thank you for the heads up. One problem though - while I'm a runner, I never tried trail running before. Thought it would be a healthy change to spice up my HIM training. Any recommendation for trail running shoes I should look at?

No specific need for trail shoes unless it is muddy/slippery conditions or rocky/technical terrain for most of the year on a majority of the trails around here. My trail shoe of choice though is the Brooks Cascadia, which fits similar to my road Brooks Adrenaline GTS.

Hit up Big Peach Running Co or your favorite local run shop and try on a bunch of different pairs. That is what I did and was well worth finding the best fitting shoe. There are lots to choose from and each fit a tad differently.

Careful though, you may enjoy trail running a lot better than pounding the pavement.......

Last year was EPIC!  I was bloody and muddy and well you know happy after the race.   I have a great pic of my knees to shoes red from the jagger bushes and muddy from knees to chest from a super stylist super man fall towards the end.  I remember try to dodge the puddles and mud pits at the start them just plowing them at the end.

My foot is now in a tremendous amount of pain, it is swollen, and I can barely walk on it at all, it hurts so much. I am still putting the gel on, taking anti inflammatories, and icing. Help!

Does a degree or two difference between two frames(head and/or seat tube) really make that much of a difference when it comes to fit?

How do I know if my cleats need to be adjusted? And how do you know in which direction to adjust them? I have been having medial knee pain and edema but my LBS says the cleat placement is fine.

Yesterday I ran 10 miles. At mile 7 it started feeling sore. At mile 9.5 I got a shooting pain and walked the last 1/2 mile. I have a half Ironman to do in a week and a half. What are my chances?
