Member 169 | Subject: 2010 Cervelo P1 for $750. Is this a good price? I don't know much about bikes so I can't be sure so I'm asking here. I'm looking to buy a decent entry level tri bike and I know the P1 has a good reputation. A guy around here has a 2010 stock P1 he's offering me for $750. I really don't know squat about it these things and it's assuming that the thing will fit me (its a 54 and my roadie is a 54 so I dunno). He says it's in great shape etc... but I am way to dumb about this stuff to decide if that's a good price or not. Thanks! ETA: Oh, it's got ~3k miles on it BTW. I don't know if that's alot or not as I don't really know about bikes. Edited by aliddle9876 2013-11-02 3:13 PM |

You may be able to get an idea here http://www.competitivecyclist.com/Store/catalog/fitCalculatorBike.j... After that look a the condition of the bike. Are there a lot of scratches, rust, etc? How clean is it? Overall that is a good price for that bike. |

It's not a fantastic deal, but also not a bad one. The assumption that you need a 54 just because your road bike is a 54 is completely wrong… First of all, there's no such thing as size denomination standard… Basically, a 54 could be called a size A and would mean just as much. Then add that there's no standard how a frame is measured, so even if you look at the geometry chart, a 54cm may not mean the same physical dimension when comparing manufacturers, common measurements are center-to-center, center-to-top, center-to-virtual point, virtual point-to-virtual point… And all that before we even start taking about bike fit. Even within the same brand, you might very well use a 54cm road bike, but could need a 51cm or 56cm for that matter, tri bike… It all depends on your fit. |

Subtle but big different between those two. I would take it to an LBS and get fitted before buying, though that costs a shitload of $$ too. Like $200 or so for a tri fit around here. |

I have a Cervelo road and tri bike and they are different sizes. Your positioning is different and the fit is different. Getting a good fit on a tri bike can be a time consuming process (but necessary). |
