Set Up Events
79F / 26C
Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 46m 10s
Overall Rank = 354/418
Age Group = ZM
Age Group Rank = 11/19
Pre-race routine:

Arrived at 2000 on 20SEP13. Found a hotel and crashed. Got about 4.5 hrs sleep due to a noisy couple next door looking for their two dogs. Arrived and picked up my packet (#739) at 0450. Staged bike and kit in the rain. I was right on the end.

Debated on whether to wear my wetsuit since the water temp was 79f.... Decided to wear it since I would be using it next month during the HIM. Ate an iced honey bun and drank some Gatorade.
Event warmup:

After getting into the water I did some short laps between the piers.
Swim
  • 29m 30s
  • 1715 meters
  • 01m 43s / 100 meters
Comments:

My primary motivation for doing this sprint was to get into the same water that the HIM in Oct will be in. I accomplished my goal of checking out the water and set a PR for 1500m at 29m30s!!
What would you do differently?:

More swim training.
Transition 1
  • 03m 46s
Comments:

Time was better than some previous times but I could do better.
What would you do differently?:

Incorporate T1/2 into my training plan. Go sockless.
Bike
  • 38m 22s
  • 10.96 miles
  • 17.14 mile/hr
Comments:

We had to dismount to cross both times due to the rain and the bridge being wet.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on the bike mount and dismount.
Transition 2
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

One of my best times in transition, but still long.......
What would you do differently?:

Train on T2 and going sockless if the weather permits.
Run
  • 31m 6s
  • 3.12 miles
  • 09m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Not a bad course to run on. Overall it was very enjoyable.
What would you do differently?:

10m/mi..... Need to improve my run time and don't make allowances for the knees.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, drank water, ate some oranges. Drank another Gatorade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training.

Event comments:

Very nice race schema. I enjoyed it and was able to gain some insight on the upcoming HIM course, or at least the initial portion of each event. This was fun.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.
