At 21 I was running but also drinking my face off, and following that with McDonalds at 2 am. Good memories. You're young with few responsibilities once. Enjoy it

Me too, just not whenever I want.

Agree. I mostly eat healthy all the time, but every Friday is date night with my wife and I eat whatever I want + ice cream on Sunday. Also, if I want to eat something that I crave I try to eat it no later than early afternoon.

Having said that, you don't want to know what my eating habits were when I was your age...

I pick one night out of the week to eat whatever I want. Mainly carb-based foods.

I go nuts, because the rest of the week is ultra-low carb backloading. It seems to do the trick just fine!

Originally posted by calebTris 21 year old triathlete here. I guess like any other person my age (maybe any age for that matter) i crave junk food sometimes. At night i randomly will want Mcdonalds for dinner, and so on. When i go out to eat with my friends i dont always get the healthy meal, i'll get a burger and fries. I generally eat healthy, and only drink water. (i want to fuel my body of course and eat good for my overall health). But i'm wondering is eating junk food a few times a week okay? or is it detrimental to my training?

A few times a week? That's a lot. A couple of times a week... OK. Honestly, ANY fast food should not be seen or used as a viable food option. But hey, you are 21 years old... I'm sure it's cheap and easy, and thus appealing. You will probably grow out of it and realize that fast food is NOT real food. Is it detrimental to your training? Eh, probably not. You ARE 21.

After reading this thread yesterday I decided to hit Wendy's after my swim at lunch. Junk food like anything else is okay in moderation, plus nothing tastes better after a 2K swim than a burger.

One man's junk is another man's treasurer.

You can often find me enjoying a Chic Fil A original chicken sandwhich and their homemade Lemonade.

Also, what's up with bringing back old threads from the dead?

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

You know what you should eat. Yet you just don’t want to. Yuck—whole wheat bread, bran cereal, oatmeal, skim milk, spinach, fish, fruit for snacks and desserts.
