I think about posting and then don't then think then don't.

In a week and a couple days I go in to get a kidney removed. Kidney cancer. WTF?

Can't bike for a month. I had to talk Doc into saying I can swim in two weeks IF it doesn't hurt.

I'm just grumpy.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that.  You know the drill, keep your chin up.  My brother just had his reversal surgery on Tuesday to get his colostomy bag removed after a year long battle with colon cancer.  He's winning so far.......I hope the same for you.  Good luck!!

Grumpy and angry - two great emotions in this fight.

FCTIAH - I have this Decal on my bike. It means F*ck Cancer There is Always Hope

It's true - LB's brother has had a huge battle. My dad had a similar one - there are good news stories everywhere. You will be one.

Keep us posted buddy

You've got another vote of support. Kind of like trying to do swim repeats at a certain interval, but this time there is no question about how to go about it.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear this, Daniel.  If you are mostly upset about missing training, it sounds like cancer is about to get it's azz kicked!  Best wishes for successful surgery and quick recovery.

Bummer man.

Hopefully it is all contained in the "capsule" of the kidney and the surgery is curative.

Will be keeping you in my thoughts.

I am so sorry to hear this Daniel.  I hope everything goes smoothly.  My fiancé is a urologist who specialized in cancer so if you have questions PM me and I will get them answered for you.

The good news (there is actually some)

As long as it hasn't gone out of the kidney, as soon as I get it cut out, it's done. There's not even any special diet required after that and life goes on without restriction.

Good news #2:
According to my urologist (the doc doing the surgery) he's used to the FAA and flight surgeons and he says there is no reason I cannot get cleared for flight status as soon as it's healed.

I just am crossing fingers it's internal to the kidney only. 10 cm X 8 cm X 6.5 cm. I basically don't have a right kidney any more.

I did change out my crank set with power meter and bottom bracket over to the carbon road bike so I wouldn't have as much vibration on me when I got to riding again. Yeah, I'm finding little puttery things to do to keep occupied

Thanks for all the good thoughts, all are appreciated!

Hoping all goes well and your doctor' suspicions are correct.

BTW: I'm hoping you mean millimeters and not centimeters?

No, unfortunately I mean centimeters.

Put two limes one on top of the other and that's what I've got.

Keep positive. Will you have any chemo after the surgery? Sounds like you caught it in the early stages.

Sweet, sweet Daniel. Giant healing double {MELON PRESS} beats your two limes. Southern Baptist fried-chicken prayers and a whole lotta love.
