Asics GT 2170 line gone, what now?

Elite  5316   Alturas, California |  Subject: Asics GT 2170 line gone, what now?I have been in the Asics GT 2130-70 or whatever line for 5 years and they have now discontinued that line. For a stability shoe, who has done the footwork of finding a similar shoe? I read somewhere that the Asics GT 3000 is supposed to be equivalent, but those are running $130 now and I am not sure that they are a good fit. So open to input. Also if you went from a GT 2170 to a GT 3000 was the sizing the same. The GT 2170 ran a half size big. I am a size 9 in other running shoes and 9.5 in the GT 2170s. Thanks in advance. |

Actually, it went form the GT2170 and GT1170 to the GT2000 and GT1000 I totally agree that the prices are getting a bit insane with ASICS. it used to be that I could boast that they made a quality shoe at a great price. Not any more. Their prices rival Nike in it's ridiculousness. They have a pair that is now well over $200. Like you, I wear the 2100 series. I have no qualms about lacing up a pair for the first time on marathon morning. I usually stock up when they go on sale to make room for the next year's model. When they closed out the 2170s, I bought 5 pair at $59 each plus I had. 10% coupon. I am glad I bought them because the new colors make me sick! |

I also bought a couple of pairs of the 2170's on sale (I wear narrow and they had them at the LRS outlet for $40) so i am just starting the pair I bought last year - but that will be tough to replace. I do know a few in the 11XX series so i am sure i'll give that a go first. |

They're OK. No real issues for me except I had some unexplained and sudden knee issues after switching. I'm not going to say it was the shoes but the timing is suspicious. Would be interested in other peoples experiences who have moved from this to a different shoe with success. I've had bad luck switching before and it's an expensive experiment. |

Then did a race in and ended up with plantar fasciitis. Going to try to 2000 and see if those will work however dissappointed. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Dave |

I am in the process of breaking in a pair of Tri Noosa's that I found on clearance. Previously I was in Saucony Guide 5's, which I really like. The Tri Noosa's run a bit more snug then the others, so I went up a half size. They seem to be OK at this point. |

I ran Gel -1170s for a long while and loved them. There are a few pairs about but I figured I needed to move on. Converted to the GT-1000 this autumn and have had good results. Size and fit are identical. I have a little soreness from the change in shoes but nothing too bad. |

| New user 105 | Subject: RE: Asics GT 2170 line gone, what now? I was running in the GT-2170s and then I switched to the Gel Kayano a couple months ago because they discontinued the GT-2170s. The Gel Kayanos cost $40 more, come in a better color scheme and I have to admit that even though I was a serious fan of the GT-2170s, the Gel Kayano is a great running shoe - maybe even a little better. Sizing in the Gel Kayano is the same as it was in the GT-2170s - go a half size up compared to other brands. -Mark |

I've run in all the 2100 series, Nimbus, and Kayano. Do to the mileage I was running I always bought 2 pairs at a time and alternating every run. I hurt in places I've never had problems with before. I don't know what the difference is exactly, but it's pronounced. They feel totally different when I run. When I use up my last remaining pair of 2170's, I'm going to switch to something else. |

Moved to Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13 it is a litter firmer feel upfront but also use the GT2000 which I though lacked a little stability the 2170's had. I am a heavier guy with a 13 4E so my options get limited. Kayano and the Beast were a little too much shoe for me causing some issues besides being about 10lbs each.
