Subject: Intermediate+ 70.3 training materials

Hi all,

I'm looking for a book and/or training plan for 70.3. I've done the full distance and have Be Iron Fit and TTB on my bookshelf. Anyone know how much Tom Rodger's "The Perfect Distance" would add to that knowledge base? I've wanted to get Going Long for a while; does it address 70.3 training pretty well? Any 70.3 training plans to recommend for a FOMOP athlete? Cheers,

Michael

I used the Triathlete Magazines's Essential Week-by-Week training guide. I really love that book. I have the Be Iron Fit as well and am digging through that and trying to decide what program to use for my full IM. The Essential guide has several options and the advanced is very advanced, at least in my opinion. Lots of QUALITY workouts instead of just pounding the pavement, though. Speed work, intervals, heart rate zones, etc.

Check it out.

I've read going long, and I think lots of the concepts apply to both IM and HIM distance. I didn't use if for a specific plan, rather used the information in helping to build my own plan. If I recall correctly, it doesn't have specific plans, but rather training concepts for getting ready for long distance racing.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

This plan is an advanced plan in terms of volume and intensity and appropriate for someone who is looking to go under 5:00 and as fast as 4:30. There isn’t a lot of fluff in the plan.
