Hi this is my first post as i am new to tri. I have a group in Queensland Australia and were go under the name of Clydesdale Mutlisport. Most of the guys have done tris before but i haven't and looking forward to doing them.

My question is

Michael Pates 22 week plan starts at 100m Swimming 3k Bike and walking/running are these min distance as i avg a 30-40k bike ride now and swim further than that.

Cheers

First welcome both to the sport and the site.

When I started I had the same question. I decided in the two sports I was 'ahead of plan' I would build from that point, not undertrain because the plan said so. No plan is going to fit you perfectly unless it is custom designed by a qualified coach. I would look at the incremental increases in the plan and apply them to your starting point.

Also I would be remiss if I didn't share with you the three most important things I have learned about doing tris:

1. Have fun
2. Be safe
3. Have fun

Why is it so hard to start over after an extended leave from the sport. When it comes to training we can't live in our glory days!

Does it matter how fast you go? Does it matter if you win? No. It only matters that you tri your best and smile when you cross the finish line.
