Pre-race routine:

I got up at 6:00 and had a bowl of cereal. I went a little bit light on the food knowing that there would be some food at the race site and that plenty would be consumed today!

I left home at 7:00 but quickly turned around and went back after realizing that I forgot my gloves. At 27 degrees out, I was sure that I would want them!

I made it to the race site and was parked by 7:25

Event warmup:

I did some stretching at home and then a dynamic warm up at the race site. I saw the Garrity's (Lisa, John and their college-age daughter Blakely) as well as Jerry, Nancy and Jerry's dad. Nancy and Jerry's dad were spectating but the rest of us were running.

Pretty soon it was time to make our way to Ridge Road to line up. My original plan was to line up near Lisa but then I realized that she was running with Blakely and seeding herself differently.

And we were off...

Comments:

I was very cold at the beginning and I didn't really start to warm up until mile 2. We entered a hilly neighborhood just before the second mile marker and we stayed there for a mile or so. I tried to power up the hills but still stay within myself and recover a bit on the downhills. I was happy with how that went.

Then we were out of the neighborhood and back on Ridge Road with a gradual uphill that went almost all the way to the finish line. I ran has hard as I could and I was happy to get a PR only a month after B2B.
Post race
Warm down:

I went into Whole Foods and got a cup of coffee -- a large because it was Larry's Beans today!

Event comments:

This is a great race. It is and MS fundraising event and it sells out each year. There were 3000 entries this year in two classes (competitive where you get a long sleeve performance shirt and timing chip and recreation where you get a cotton t shirt and no timing chip). There is also a kids mile and a kids dash as well as custom division and best hat.

I was a bit disappointed that Brueggers does not appear to be a sponsor any longer.
