Anybody used these or have an opinion on these?  I do not buy that simulating a wetsuit swim at every training session is a good thing but does this have any place as a swimming tool?  Seems like it would function somewhat like a pull buoy.

From their website:

"Wetsuit-level buoyancy and a natural range of motion simulate a wetsuit swim at every training session, which over time improves stroke technique and pacing while building muscle memory."

I have a pair and it has helped my swim tremendously. One way it's different from a pull buoy is you can kick.

I suggest taking the money you'd on these and invest in learning how to swim better. Seriously. These may help in the short term, but you're doing yourself a huge disservice by buying yourself a huge crutch.

Sorry these have helped me more in 3 months than the previous 1.5 years without. Best money I have spent on swimming.

Can you elaborate on how the Lava pants have improved your swimming? Thanks!

They have helped me in letting me work on my pull without me worrying about my legs. Also over time my body has gotten use to being in a more horizontal position. Even when I don't use the lava pants my body remains in a more horizontal position. I have improved from a 2:10/100yd to 1:40/100yd within 3 months since using the Lava pants. The prior 1.5 years I was suck at 2:10. Since I started wearing them 3 other teammates are using them. In a nutshell they allow me to work on bettering my form.

I'd save money and just buy a cheap pool buoy to work on your stroke. That will help get your body in a more horizontal position (so will kicking). I swim faster with a wetsuit too, I'm pretty sure most/if not everyone do. Living in FL there are very few swims that are wetsuit legal, I wouldn't want to become dependent on a crutch, which is what these seem.

Immediately I felt attracted by the challenge. I have done plenty of biking this summer and a new motivation, particularly toward the end of the summer, was what I needed.

The XTERRA off-road triathlons consist of a lake swim, a mountain bike trail ride, and a trail run. I decided to try the AZ Xtreme Desert XTERRA Tri as my 1st off-road triathlon, and my 3rd tri ever.
