Is anyone planning to do the Olympic race here this year? I haven't ever done this race and I think it's changed names over the past couple of years. I am looking for an early season Olympic to give me some incentive for more winter training. Would love specific info about what you thought of the course (Hilly, flat, tough, etc.) and what the water temp generally is this early in the season.

Thanks!

The water was mid to low 60s last year. Swim was nice because it wasn't crowded. Course is fairly flat a couple of rollers, couple of RR tracks, lots of turns. The run is two loops and flat. Transitions area is small and fast. Great early season race :)

Just saw they moved the start time up to 8 AM on race morning. That's great news, as I may even be able to drive up on race morning if it's necessary (daughter has a softball tournament that weekend).

That's awesome! Excited to meet someone I've been chatting with! I will be there (but haven't officially registered YET). I am planning on it and have it on the calendar as my one early season event. I may not be super "race ready" but should be in decent shape on the swim and run. The bike may not be great based on the weather we are having right now. The trainer is calling my name! See you soon.

Hasn't this winter been crazy?!

Last year at Accel was my second time on my bike for the year! Haha.  The first time had been at the Pigman Sprint the week before--brutal.

I had been doing really well this fall on the trainer, but I haven't been on my bike once in 2014.  It is currently out at my real house  (I'm 30 minutes away in a rental) surrounded by a bunch of stuff they moved when our pipes broke.  I'm trying to figure out a way to liberate it and get going again:)

See you at Accel!

Oh no. I have seen some of your race times and you are speedy so not to worry! Much faster than me! I hope my sleeveless wetsuit is warm enough. Was going to ask about Florida to see if I should invest in a full-sleeve. I've had one in the past and I just don't really love them. I prefer sleeveless. Thoughts?

Funny, I have never had a sleeveless, but am thinking about getting one this year :)

I think water was 64 at Accel last year, but I don't remember getting hot.  I'm a TOTAL wuss about the cold, so I may not be the best person for advice.  The cold is actually the main reason I stop most of my swim workouts. Seriously, I'm a wimp, and this winter is just about killing me.

Do they have any wetsuit legal tris in Florida?  I guess i've always assumed the water is too warm for that down there.  Is that where you're doing your IM?

Yes, in Florida and I think typically the ocean is wetsuit legal that time of year. I am pretty sure all the pics show everyone in wetsuits but I guess I had better look. Didn't even consider that.

And remember that ocean water is typically colder than lake water in the summer. Ocean has constant currents, turnover, etc. I think the water temp is generally in the 70s in Floriday but almost always wetsuit legal.

My tri buddy just ditched me for Accel. So...not sure I am coming now as would have to get hotel on my own. DARN! I may still jump in and drive
up that AM but not sure how great that would be.
