I was thinking about the non-compression ones (race shirts). I usually hang dry them with my other stuff; just wondering.

We dry the heck out of them in the dryer with no issues.  They don't seem to shrink and don't seem to fall apart from drying.

Been putting mine in the dryer for years.  I have shirts that have been in the dryer hundreds of times and they're fine.

Don't put trisuits, tri shorts, tri tops, bike shorts, etc. in the dryer.  That's no good.

I hang dry all of my workout gear.  I've read that the heat of the dryer can bake in the smell, plus they seem to last longer (just my n=1 observation).

The magic wicking ability of the tech fabrics is supposed to not work if you put them in the dryer. I read it on a label so it must be true (smirk). So I hang mine but who knows if it's worth the added time or not.

I've been told that drying them bakes in the smell and I've been told that line-drying them leaves smell-producing bacteria in place, so either way you stink. I dirty at least seven shirts a week, plus assorted socks, shorts, sweats, etc; it's far more convenient for me to put that stuff through the dryer, so I do.

I have race shirts that have likely seen >150 washes and they still haven't fallen apart. Even if they do fall apart, how many times do you need to relive the glory of the 2007 Stinky Wizzleteats Sprint Triathlon?

This is what I've read as well so I hang mine to dry.

Yeah, I used to throw all of mine in the dryer but they started to smell REALLY bad. So, line drying has really helped with that.

I always heard/read that it was fabric softener that ruined the wicking properties, not specifically the dryer. I never found the dryer to hurt the performance but I have found it takes longer for the "perma-funk" to set in if I don't use the dryer. So I hang to dry

Yes, but you need to assist since they can not go in on their own power.

Yes, it's the softener that's a problem - not the drying.  I put mine on the delicate cycle and they turn out great.

I also haven't seen a difference in odor retention between dried things and not dried things.    Not letting clothes fester too long, and using Tide w/Febreeze, really helps.

I have washed and dried ALL of my stuff for nearly 10 years. Never had a break down in material or a smell set it.

I do try to wash my gear in a separate (smaller) load. This seems to help with the funk.
