Subject: turbo's or rollers?
OK GUYS, I am a former track sprinter turned triathlete and am used to training on rollers, which would you say were better, rollers or turbo's?
obviously rollers give you great cadence but not much resistance, is that not what triathletes need?
I would appreciate your opinion.

Cheers

Neil

I have to say both…. they're both offering great benefits. Obviously, rollers will really get your balance right as well as getting a very smooth pedal stroke, saving lots of energy in the long run. Trainers (that's a turbo for us on this side of the Atlantic :-) ) is quite a different animal and offers the resistance to build power. I was never a sprinter on the track, but I was a sprinter racing road when I was younger. DId lots of work on rollers because of that.

A lot of the rollers have resistance add ons. Also, at least my (albeit older) kreitlers had a fork stand that could turn the rollers into a stationary. Given your history that would be what I recommended looking for.

If you can do 53/11 for more than a few seconds with two fly wheels and a fully open killer head wind add on for a set of Kreitler rollers, you're already ready for the Tour.

Don't think rollers and power is an either/or choice.

E-motion rollers by Inside Ride are a great training tool. New model has remote controlled magnetic resistance. I have almost 15,000 miles on mine which are an older model.  You can do out of the saddle sprints and any other type of riding you do on the road. I have PT wheel and do all kinds of interval workouts on the rollers. Worth every penny...although they are more expensive than many trainers. No need to use training tire which is also a plus.

I'm a turbo guy and not a roller guy, but this one (not available in the US) looks pretty sweet. Don't know how well it works but I love the idea of getting it digital-worthy with power, training features, and testing features all baked in.

If you're good enough to ride rollers, ride rollers. Simples.
