I'm already getting stoked. Bear Lake, maybe Grand Haven, Steelhead, Festival of Races are tentatively on the calendar and then a few others depending on how my schedule plays out.

Just heard yesterday that Tri to Finish is putting on an event on Belle Isle With the state taking control of the island,(cleaning it up!) this could be a pretty neat event. Don't know when it is though...hoping I can fit it in my schedule!

I will most likely be doing the GR half, Motor City (on Belle Isle) and that's probably it as I'm doing IMMT in mid August. Might be able to squeeze in the new race mentioned above depending on timing.

GR is hosting Long Course Nationals so I'm pretty excited about that! Also looking at keeping the streak alive and doing Michigan Titanium for the 3rd year in a row.

haven't set our Tri schedule yet but the wife and I are shooting for our first 1/2 marathon in Lincoln, Nebraska in May and our first marathon will hopefully be the Chicago Marathon in October.

Tri to Finish Belle Isle is July 27th I think. Doing their Boyne City race again for sure, great company with some stellar venues!

So far my tentative schedule is:

Martian Half Marathon, Dearborn - it will actually be the first half for both my husband and I - April 12
Island Lake Oly tri, Brighton - May 24
Open water mile in Howell, usually the weekend after Independence Day
Michigan Titanium half iron, Grand Rapids -- it would be my first 70.3 so we'll see how my biking goes in the next few months before I sign up!
Freep marathon - I WILL get that sub-4 eventually! Lots of speedwork planned this year. =)

Hey Michigan -

I'm looking for good Saturday 2014 Triathlons. (I competed in my first Tri on June 15th - Oly distance: great fun)

Does anyone have advice on which race is better? better course / organized well...
August 30th: Tiger Lily on Gun Lake by 3 disciplines / (I raced their Belle Isle on June 15th and it was mostly well run)
September 6th: Reeds Lake Triathlon (a mid range distance - but I know nothing about the race, water conditions or course)

any thoughts would be welcome
thanks - happy and healthy training

Bruno

Check out michigantri.com for some options as well. Yes, Tiger Lily is in it's first year, so I don't know what to tell you about that one.
Reeds Lake is one that I don't go to anymore because I think there are too many people for the venue. Having said this, many people do like it. I used to do it for years in the early days.

I am signed up for the GR Half. It was supposed to be the full but I was guilty of too much too soon and ran into some injuries. I started biking and swimming more and realized I prefer to do those activities so I signed up for my first tri in a few weeks, Petoskey. I figure what better place to start as it's within walking distance of where we will be staying and it's one of my favorite places!

My thinking was that with three events, I could vary my training enough so it wouldn't grow stale prior to seeing positive results and finding the additional motivation I needed to continue training.

I was filled with anticipation for this event, as it was the first in what I hoped would be many triathlons, and I had no idea how I'd do.

How should I go about training for the marathon while also building base in the other two events? Doing this seems like it's causing me to break the 10% rule in running.

Know that base training is not a component of training that is going to necessarily make you faster, but it will make you stronger and give you more endurance to last through the longer races.

Knowing where the fluids are, how they will fit on your bike, how much to reach for, and when to reach for it should be understood prior to ever setting foot on the course.

I had read the articles on BT, I'd trained, and I thought I had prepared. There were, however, a few things that I didn't internalize despite what I'd been told.

Your training schedule should be based completely on the hours you have available to train, not necessarily on the number of hours you "need" to train.
