Sort of proud of Cindy Flanagan. She got home late tonight, around 615 pm. (Which is normal time for her) But she saddled up and got her 4.5 mile bike ride in before dusk anyway. Good for her!

Sort of mad at her too though. We had planned to ride together, so she had told me she would be home between 5 and 530. So there I sat, on the deck, waiting until 600, when I finally decided the heck with it and I would ride by myself. I had planned to ride one easy lap with her and then get a second easy lap in solo to increase my mileage. I let her being late get in my head and I went out hard from the git-go, which explains why I averaged 14 mph for the first 4 miles. By the time I climbed that last half mile to the house I had nothing left to attempt a second lap, even if I had believed I could have finished before it got too dusky to be safe.

Now, having been a motor-ref for USAC pro bicycle races and official motor for several USAT races I have been less than pleased that I wasn't riding at even a SLOW 18 mph pace. But wait a minute. Pushing a 380 pound body at 14 mph is no mean feat! Feeling better since I thought of it that way.

I love how you call 18 mph slow! I would LOVE to do that in a race. Good for Cindy, Good for you. Now.. stop letting other folks take residence in your head!

Robin, you have to remember that before this all my bicycling experience was riding my motorcycle along with pelotons for races like the Tour of Georgia or Tour of Missouri. The first year I worked ToM they actually had a mandatory meeting for team captains and directors after the first day of racing to tell them that if they didn't start acting like this was a pro race there would not be a second year. All through the race we kept waiting for somebody to make a break, but it never happened. They finished the race that day with an average speed of 18 mph, but there were many miles where they were only doing 16 or 17 miles. Finally the Nat Comm in charge of the race pulled up alongside the peloton and told them that if they didn't start RACING he was going to DQ them all and forfeit the leg. Then he put that out over the radio to the team cars too.

But like I said, I think even George Hincapie would have a hard time pushing 380 pounds at 14 mph.

400 yards of swimming tonight
3x50, 1x100, 3x50
After that first 1x100 I knew there was no way I was going to push it for 2 of them. Still, I'm happy with what I got tonight. It's coming along slowly, but it IS coming along. Followed up with 10 minutes hot tub and 15 minutes sauna.

That was after my annual physical, at which I received a clean bill of health. My doctor spent almost fifteen minutes going over my training intentions and asking questions. Then he said it sounded like I knew what I was doing, was doing it in a gentle enough progression, and to have fun doing it. I have his blessing.

I am so glad its all coming together. Slowly but still progress is progress. That is what I tell myself all the time.

I not sure if I shared this but decided not to run Chicago Marathon. at 320 lbs I have done it before but not this out of shape. If I had 8 hours I might go for it but at 6.5 it would be a little hard. I train 2.5 miles every day at the pace I would have to do 26.2. that 2.5 miles been kinda hard. I am trying to remind myself to focus on weight lose as my primary goal and everything else will fall into place.

Your last line says it all. No need in doing something that will either hurt you or discourage you. Keep up the good work and then you can kill that marathon later!

IMO, a very smart decision on your part. I just can't imagine a marathon at that weight being good for your knees/ankles. Give it time dude, you'll get back to where you want to be, and then you can not only nail it but feel good about doing it too.

Nothing from me today. Wednesday is my designated rest day because I can't squeeze anything in between school dismissal and our WW's meeting.

5 AP tonight for a 500 yd swim, 5 for a new week

4x25, 2x50, 1x100, 2x50, 4x25 = 11m 15s time

Almost where I wanted to be to start. I'll add a second 100 in the middle Sat and all of next week. Then I can start building my distance by putting my long block in the middle, adding 100 each week until I get to where that center block is 2000 yards.

2.06 miles in 48m. Nothing to brag about, but I was breaking in a new training partner. It was Buddy, my 11 yr old chocolate Lab. The time is skewed because he is just now learning to walk on a leash. Hardly any pulling at all after the first quarter mile. Perhaps if I had been walking him all along I would not now weigh in the 370's. Sunday I will try to take the "Wild Child" with me, my 4 yr old Airedale. That should prove interesting. My goal is to walk each of them 5 or 6 times separately, to get them used to what I expect, and then I'll put the leash splitter on that I built and try to walk them both together. Once the are handling that calmly we will start working on whittling down those times. I figure there's no real hurry. First spring tri isn't until May 9th.

It would have been so easy to blow off a workout tonight, since I know Cindy isn't going to do anything when she gets home from work and I wasn't committed to meeting her at the gym. Thankfully I was checking Fb and my daughter had posted her walk today. It gave me that little extra push out the door.

Sunday Update:

Still sliding... I really need to get a grip and start pushing forward again!

Weighed 256 this morning. As much trouble as I've had, I had managed to stay between 250-254... no longer. My big issue this week was my son's 15th birthday. Between Spaghetti Warehouse and his cake... ouch. Now, in my defense, I did order the "Warehouse Salad". However, it's one of those salads that has crap added to it to make it unhealthy... should have read the description better. Jacob also requested a specific cake. There's a little hispanic bakery that makes a "Canasta Cake" It's a 4 layer deep chocolate cake with a cream filling between layers and a chocolate ganache (spelling) that requires an insulin shot for a single piece... Yeah... still my fault

Training wasn't much better than last week:
Sunday: 1 mile, negative split run.
Wed: 2200yd swim in 61:00. Isn't that half-iron distance?

Finding time now that school has started again, and with my oldest daughter having Common Core issues has just sucked any and all training time out of the window. I think I'm going to beg and plead with the wife to hurry up and get a bike trainer. Not getting out to even just run around the block is my fault tho... gotta turn this around!

I can SO relate to this. I spent the last 18 months in a dark and lonely place, but I fought my way out, and you will too. You have recognized and admitted the need. That is the first step, and quite often the hardest one.

That cake sounds like something I'd like to try, except for the insulin thing. Does that apply to non-diabetics too?

2.4 miles x 1780 yds = 4272 yds IM ÷ 2 = 2136 yds for HIM. So you actually beat that. See that? A bright spot!

Walked/jogged ~ 2.06 miles in 41m 47s

Today I took Samson, my 4 yr old Airedale (aka The Wild Child) with me. He broke the leash because he wanted to go play with a Jack Russell. He was cool though, stayed there and waited for me to come get him. Then we finished the walk. He did not try to drag me up the road like Buddy wanted to. But he lunged for pretty much all of the birds and squirrels we saw for the first mile. I did the gravity shuffle on the way home and that gave him less time to be an "Airehead". (The terms are synonymous)

Yeabsolutely! It's so bleeding rich and sweet I just sit there and shake for 5-10 mins... Thankfully the last of it is finally gone!

Planned on a ride this morning, but woke up to a lovely lightening storm... will run tonight.

Well today I am down 30 lbs for the year. 66 lbs to go. Maybe I should make it 67 so it can be 100 lbs total. Sad thing is 18 of it came in the last 6 weeks.

Back home from driving my Mom back to Fla and helping her get settled in for the winter (poor thing). I did okay, I ate fairly well, splurged some and got some training in but not what I wanted. I did not gain weight, but didn't lose any either.

Now I have a few days before heading out for a week and a half. I hope to get a lot of walking in as well as some running. Fingers crossed that I don't gain weight either.

Couldn't post last night. Our router died and the new one (NetGear) would not connect to the internet. NetGear does not include a number for Tech Support in their packaging. You have to register you new router first and then they will send you an e-mail with the phone number and your account password. But you can't register the router without the internet. But I can't access the internet without Tech Support, and so on, and so on, Can you sense my frustration? I took the piece of NetGear garbage back to Staples and exchanged it for a Linksys router. I had internet access back within 15 minutes, in time to go to WW's tonight.

I have built the two sides of my swim pyramid. I will continue working on those Thu and Sat. Then next week I can start building my "distance block" in the middle. 4x25, 2x50, 2x100, 2x50, 4x25 = 600 yds in 13m 32s

Swim goal for before my Kinetic Sprint on May 10th is to be able to swim 800 yds in under 16m. Something to work toward.

20 AP today to start the new week, and I am feeling freakin' AWESOME!!

I renewed my CRAZY card this afternoon. I did my own indoor mini-triathlon today.

(6AP) 4x25, 2x50, 2x100, 2x50, 4x25 = 600 yds in 13m 30s followed by
(11AP) 24m on the Lifecycle for 8.6 miles followed by
(3AP) 20m on the treadmill @ 4 mph for 1.3 miles.

AP = Activity Points. It's WW's way of tracking/scoring your activity. Back in 2012, when I was training for my first tri I was averaging 60-75 AP per week. That will be fine for the rest of this year, but I want to be averaging between 75 and 100 AP after the new year.

It's been a while since I stopped by here last, in fact I think it was March last time I got on here. Pretty awesome that there are a lot of the same folks still on here. Haven't had time to read through all the posts since March, but I hope everyone had a great summer.

Where'd I disappear to? I spent a bit of time biking this summer, in fact, that is pretty much all I did workout wise. I think I can count the number of runs I've done since March on one hand. Even though I was signed up for a tri, I did not actually do one. I deferred my registration until 2015 because I just wasn't going to be ready for the run of an oly. I did just complete my first century on the bike though.

I know tri season is pretty much over for most. But if you'll have me, I'd love to join you guys again.
