My roommates and I have an old keg sitting around and were thinking of trying to turn it into a BBQ Smoker.  Has anyone ever tried this or seen plans for it on the internet.  We have some ideas, but wanted to see what you guys thought.

I agree, with the exception that you can buy a smoker (or a weber) for the amount of pain/time/trial&error of building a smoker out of a keg.

Cripes, refill the keg and order a pizza.  Who wants all that work when you're hammered?

I second the Weber recommendation, best grill on the market and not at all expensive.

Unless you can cut the stainless yourself, you may have a hard time finding guys that will cut it.  They'll get freaked out because they think it's a pressurized vessel.  I used to brew very seriously and manufactured my own brewpots out of kegs and ran into this problem.

I grill on a Weber but I smoke on one of these bad boys.  Professional grade smoker and well worth the money.

+1.  I used to brew at a pub and the owner and I thought it would be a great idea to make a BBQ out of a keg.  It's a ***** trying to find someone that'll do it, and expensive when you do.  save your pennies and buy a Traeger.  www.traegerindustries.com

I had an old keg I turned into a roommate. We put an old Chi Chi's sombrero on his top, taped eyes on him, drew nostrils on the bung cork, and drew a big handlebar mustache on him. We called him Pepe The Wonder Keg. I miss Pepe sometimes.......*sniff*

Your're dating yourself when you can remember kegs with bung corks... not many of those left anymore.

Apparently, Yuengling likes to reuse old kegs. Heck, I've gotten it in kegs from OTHER breweries! But yes, there aren't many like that left. Again, I'm old skool, yo. That's how I like to roll.

Dude....the title of this thread says, "smoker".
