Who's doing it? I really want to sign up, but I've been really struggling with an achilles injury lately. I'm still tempted to sign up for the sprint distance though. Looks like I'll have to save olympic for next year

I have signed up for the sprint. Did it last year as my first ever triathlon and loved it. To my total surprise I placed second in the superclydes ! What a encouragement for all my training in the past year. I have another triathlon a week later in MAlibu. Last year two weeks separated these events. This year they are one week apart.

I Want to do an olympic distance later in Oct in Southern California , Any recommendations ?

Not aware of any So Cal Oly distances at that time, but check trifind.com.  There is Pumpkinman Oly in Las Vegas 10/15

I'm going to do the Bonelli Olympic distance on Sept. 30th, which I know isn't late October, but it's the latest Oly I found. I have no idea if it's a good race or not, I'm basically just doing it because the time fits with my training.

the Tri's at Bonelli are cool. Not real big events, but they're well organized and have a bunch of sponsors. The lake makes for a nice smooth swim, some hills on the bike which will be a few loops, and a cool run along the lake

Not many oly's in So Cal in the Fall. There's a good sprint race on Catalina in November though

Thanks for the info .
I am really looking forward to LA Triathlon and Malibu Triathlon the following week (sept 17). They are only 3 and 4 weeks away. Got two more weeks of hard workouts and then it will be time to taper.
Still undecided as to wear my wetsuit or not. I know I need to spend more time swimming and running in the sand while wearing it. Trouble is It's been so hot (90-110F) here this summer that all my seas swims have been in a plain old swimsuit.

I did this race(sprint) last year and I'm thinking about doing it again this year. I'm not worried about the bike and run but am concerned about the swim. Do you think anyone with a week's worth of swim training can pull this off?

Better hit the pool every second day and get some yardage in.
Its an ocean swim about 600-700 yards long with four turns so the course gets crowded around the buoys unless you are in the fastest in the wave.
Also Last year after our second turn about 400 m in we started to mix with the last waves of Olympic so it was a bit caotic .
I would not attempt it without some 800 m pool swims and two or three ocean swims before hand.
Why not do the Long Beach Triathlon a few weeks later and get a month of swimming in beforehand ? The ocean swim is more sheltered .

Thanks for the tip! That's what I thought... My wife suggested it but I just didn't want to get way over my head. I'm not too concerned with open water swim...I feel more comfortable there as opposed to pool swims...go figure.

I may sign up for Long Beach instead...we'll see. Any others doing this event?

I did LB last year, will be out of town this year.  The ride is cool because it's on the wide flat streets where they run the Grand Prix.  Exit from T1 starts at a little uphill driveway, gets really crowded.  Couple of rises over the ocean, do that twice.  Not really hills but your legs will feel it.   The run is flat.  I like the swim course because it's a sheltered point to point BUT the water is pretty disgusting.  I wouldn't swim in it if there wasn't a tri going on.

Carpinteria sprint and oly are also on the 24th.

As for LA, developed a calf injury, has changined this from a sub 3 attempt to just finishing, that is IF I get to the start line.....
