Subject: Possibly Relocating to Nashville

My wife and I are trying to decide if we want to relocate from Augusta GA to Atlanta or Nashville.  Without going into details these are our only 2 choices.  I'm looking for input from someone that has lived in both places within the last several years.  I'm a software engineer so I can find a descent job in both locations.  Housing budget is probably a max $250k. My wife also has a 12 y/o daughter.  I realize the 2 cities vary by size and traffic is my biggest concern with Atlanta.  Traffic in Augusta is nothing compared to both cities so that will be an adjustment for us.  I'm used to driving 15 minutes and being at the trails for MTB or running.  We don't do the bar scene but do appreciate a night out every now and then.  Anyways, any input from those they may have lived in both places would be appreciated.  Thanks.

That housing budget should work in Nashville.  As always, the farther out you go the better your pricing.  The Brentwood/Franklin area (Williamson County) has a well-regarded public school system ... I live just inside the Williamson County line and I have a 12 mile (20 minute commute) to mid-town Nashville ( which is fairly close to the Vanderbilt campus).  There are lots of parks for running ... here's one I use... http://www.nashville.gov/Parks-and-Recreation/Nature-Centers-and-Natural-Areas/Warner-Park-Nature-Center/Maps-Trails-.aspx ... about 3 miles from the house.

I'm a Realtor and I can tell you hands down that your money will go a lot further with the Nashville housing market. II have lived in the Nashville area most of my life but I was born in Atlanta and still have family there which I visit from time to time. The traffic in Atlanta is much, much worse than Nashville. My wife drives from Smyrna (TN) to Nashville every day (about 20 miles) and most days it is not much of a headache. There are pros and cons to each city, but there is a reason why we still live in the Nashville area.

It was a hard decision but we ended up settling on moving to Atlanta.  It's going to be a huge adjustment for both of us but having a stable job market will be well worth it.  Thanks for all of the input.
