I am considering doing the Olympic length.  Any other BTers making the trek up North?

I'm doing the 1/2 Ironman... First Long distance in my life! I did the Olympic twice before and last time I felt like I could do more so here I am!

The Montreal race is really smooth and the bike portion really easy but kinda boring since you are doing the same loop 9 times (20 for me...)

Good luck!

I know that OPUS is doing the Oly distance race. I am racing the sprint distace again this year.   I would try to attempt the Oly but I can't run.   Story of my life.

So excited! We're headed up to Montreal tomorrow morning. Need to finish work to get the bags packed and the bike tuned.  I'm looking forward to several parts of this weekend - new city, new race (the bike course is a crit!).  Should be an adventure!  Though my training has suffered significantly from a nasty cold, I'll do my best and have fun with it!

It's a great course to watch... maybe next year I'll try it. This year I was in recovery from finishing the Montreal Marathon.

Same question. Is anyone doing the race in 2007?
I will be racing, either in the sprint or the oly. Haven't decided yet.
Although the circuit is great to ride on... doing repetivie 4km loops gets kind of boring.

If I can find the time to up my training, I will be doing the sprint.

4 loops around the track is not too bad.  9 for the oly distance could start to get boring. Lots of people and bike traffic while riding.

Hello,

I'm doing my first Half-IronMan in Montreal.

I heard that the ride is VERY smooth, so I'm looking forward to it. Actually, the circuit is open most of the time to bikes, so I will go before the race, in order to check it out and get my bearings.

See you all there!

Marty

It's true... the road is almost perfect.... Probably the best road in Quebec (by far) although it does get crowded with inline skaters and casual cyclists during the weekends.

The swim in the olympic basin isn't that bad... infact ... with no real waves it's almost like a pool swim...

Although lots of laps means no change in scenery for the rider, this race is probably as spectator friendly as it gets.

Also, not sure how the "bassin Olympique" is exactly shaped, but I heard that the swim distance is much more linear (as opposed to triangular shaped) and therefore makes it easier to swim in a straight line.

Looking forward to that as well as I tend to swim in zig-zags!

Steel cables  anchored to the bottom of the bassin are used to hold the marker bouys for the kayaking race lanes ( I think there are 6 or 8 lanes in all). While swimming out and back if you stay 3 to 10 feet from the marker bouys you can see the cable ( through the weeds at times ) and use that for your sighting.  If you find the cable you will only  have to sight to see how far down the course you are .

The course is a large rectangle shape. For the HIM ( 2000m) it is most likey to be a 950m swim straight out from the start the either a 90 deg. left ( 2005 race) or 90 deg. right (2006 race) turn around the maker bouy.  100m across then another 90 deg turn and then back 950m to the exit.  Go to google earth or a site like that that has the satilite view you will see it right away.
