Subject: tech = motivation? "smart" gear question - misfit shine or ?

Hi...my name is Lisa. I've been on BT for almost 4 years...but I rarely post in Tri-Talk. I may have a COJ addiction problem...but I digress.

This topic straddles a few forums...but hoping to get more eyes in here.

Reading a new magazine (30 days free on Kindle -T3...a British Tech mag) and read about the misfit device. All I hear about is the fitbit and, occasionally, the nike band/watch. However, I have a Motorola RAZR HD and the Nike isn't compatible and I believe the fitbit won't work all that well with my phone. So I read about the misfit and I was intrigued. Anyone use this/heard of it? What caught my attention is that it can be in the pool and its a reasonable price. Other tech gear that doesn't require iOS or specific phone is of interest. And I'm cheap...so no Garmin for me!!

Thanks!

Hey lady.  The wife just got a Shine over the holiday and has used it for the last week or two.  Just a few bits of information.

Yes, it is water proof.  It only provides activity points based on what you are doing.  It does not keep HR or cadence or anything else like that.  It is currently in Beta with some of the exercises but it also keeps track of sleep.  It has a 3-axis acelerometer which is how it knows what you are doing.  That and how you "tag" your exercise that you are doing.

I think the best review I've seen is that if you are into data and data minutae this is not the gadget for you.  if you want something fun to help you get moving (again or for the first time) this is a good gadget.

Will be interested to see what new things they come up with.  OH, and somewhere on their website they claim they are going to be able to api upload the data to other websites sometime later in 2013.  Take that statement for what it is worth.
