I am headed into a pretty busy tri season! Olympic in May, HIM in July, 2.4 mile swim event in August, and then a full IM
in November. Wanting to get some quality swims in but it also will not be my MAIN focus until after May.
Anyone want to join me in trying to reach 50 miles of swimming by May 1? This is seems more feasible to me than 100 miles!

Jump on in...the water's just right!

Either everyone is swimming WAY MORE than 50 miles between now and then or no one is ready for an early-season challenge. Come on people! It's fun to have some goals to shoot for!

Sure, I am in.  50 miles is about 80000 meters?

Thanks to all of you for humoring me. I struggle getting in the water as much as I should. To date for 2014 I am at 8350. I know, not off to a grand start but at least we now have a goal to shoot towards. Lets shoot for between 80,000 and 90,000. Sound okay? I am not picky about progress posts as long as we all post about once a week. Also, would LOVE posts of good, fun, long workouts as you put in the distance. I am not in a serious training program YET but will soon start my training for a June Olympic, July HIM and then IM Florida in November. Trying to build a strong base right now. WELCOME!!

I just signed up to the site and I am training for my first triathlon, looking to do a sprint tri in July.
I'll give it a shot to get in 50 miles by May 1, I think I'm up for the challenge.

You won't tackle this alone, Jen.  I just finished a huge running binge, so it's time to get back into the pool.  If I follow my plan properly, I should be just over 50 miles by May 1, so this will keep me honest!

I'll play.  I don't log my training on BT so you'll have to "trust" me I guess.

We totally trust you! I am headed out of town tomorrow and will not return until next Monday and there is not a pool at the cabin on the lake
in WI and it's frozen and there is 2.5 feet of snow right now. So, I will be thrilled with a couple of 4-5 mile runs and some snowmobiling but promise I will hit the pool HARD next week when I return! I am excited to have all of you.

My first dip in the pool for 2014 will be tomorrow.  It will be a hair over a month since I've swam.  This is gonna hurt!

I took two and 1/2 months off so I know the pain you speak of.  I got back in the water the end of last month so your misery is not alone as I head to the pool tonight.

Haven't swam since September or so, but I'm in. Was planning on hopping back in shortly regardless. When I swim, it tends to be minimum 1500 yards, and usually more like 2K - 3K. I'll likely be going 3x (minimum) per week. That's about 15 weeks to May 1st, I believe. 45 swim workouts, need to average about 2K per workout if I hold the 3x / week.

Shouldn't be an issue unless I get hurt. First swim will be in the next few days.

First swim down this morning with 2400 yds.  My last swim before this was Dec 2.  I felt like a triathlete again!

Will probably keep an eye on this. Should make the 50 miles well before May though. 24,250 so far this year and missed a week due to being sick.

My plan takes it's first hit just hours after agreeing to do it! Ha! I went into my gym last night, and they are closing the pool from Jan 19 until Feb 1. It isn't a big deal, I have other locations I can go to in order to swim, but they are just far less convenient. Or maybe I add a little to the weekly average and delay my start until Feb 1? Either way, I'll get it done.

Geesh, took 6 days off from swimming and biking due to a trip to the great white north (Land O' Lakes, WI) and am feeling SLUGGISH and
lacking some motivation. I will hopefully grab my next swim this Thursday. Today I ran and barely survived 5 miles. Took a steep hill during a snowmobile outing on Saturday and slammed my knees, shins, and HEAD into the front of the sled. I was pretty beat up. Thank goodness for helmets! My neck is stiff and I am bruised all around my knee caps and down my shins. It was sort of scary but didn't ruin the trip by any means! We still had a blast and I continued on for the rest of the weekend. Great job out of all of you. I will post progress as we get deeper into this (for the entire group).

I think quite truly for the first time I 'get it'. It's not just about the fitness. It's not just about the great little endorphin rush as you hit 5, 10, 15 miles...its not just the medal at the end.
