Current plans

May - Rev3 Knoxville HIM
July - Music City Olympic
August - Toughman HIM (Pell City, AL)
September - Ironman Chattanooga

I raced Goosepond HIM in 2013. It is a pretty well-run race. The swim was fine. Bike course is very flat and only had one bottle exchange around mile 30. Run course had some rollers. There were no mile markers on the run course. I use a Garmin but heard lots of people complaining and asking other racers and volunteers for mileage updates. I thought the aid stations left something to be desired on the run. Of course this is a small race. My only other long course races were Rev3 Knoxville and IM Louisville. Both of those are much bigger organizations and it was obvious.

The 2013 race was Oct 13 and it was still pretty hot on the run. Early September could be brutal but seems several race directors moved up late season HIMs due to IM Chattanooga - Atomic Man moved up about 4 weeks, Goosepond moved up about 4-5 weeks. Toughman is a brand new race for 2014 put on by Team Magic. It's in mid-August. Only reason I'm racing it is because the timing is good for IMCHATT. It's going to be brutally hot.

For sure:

March: Germantown Half-Marathon
May: Memphis in May Sprint Triathlon (my first tri)
May: Soldier Field 10 Miler

The second half is a little up in the air. It'll either be running heavy (Green Line Half-Marathon, Memphis Marathon half), or triathlon heavy (an Olympic in either July or August - open to suggestions - and possibly a HIM later that fall (Austin, Augusta, Miami). Or some combination of them all. I would like 2015 to be the year of the Ironman, so 2014 would gear up for that.

Hey JBRuth. If you're in the Murfreesboro area you should check out MidTn Multisport. We have around 60 members and half live in Murfreesboro. It's a great group to train with. Check us out on Facebook.

I may be in Arkansas, but I'm right across the river from Memphis, so...

4-12: Fairway 5K - Goal is to run the entire race
5-17: MIM Sprint Tri - Goal is to finish (1st Tri ever)
5-31: Tour de Cure - 62 mile course (will be first Metric Century)
12-??: Starry 4K - I like to support Shelby Farms, plus I have some unfinished business...

I may run a couple of other sprints later on in the year. I'm not sure if I want to go for improved times next year, or Olympic distances...

Rick

Had a scheduling conflict... my wife works on 4-12, so the Fairway is not going to happen... I'll replace it with:
5-3: Marion COC Fun Run - The goal is still to complete a 5K... but since it's 3 weeks later, I'm wondering if I have the testicular fortitude to try the 10K (flat land)

You might look at Mighty Mite Sprint in Forrest ZCity, AR. It is a great sprint triathlon to do!

It is a good race, it's a point to point race, so it is different than other races around here. there is also the Dragonfly that is close to Memphis and it is a good race, plus the SharpShooter in August!

According to the website the Sharpshooter isn't going this year at Herb Parsons.

Well that is a bummer!  I loved that race. It was short enough that you could redline that race the whole way!

Does this mean all the races are cancelled? They ran a women's only race, the super sprint and a longer distance that weekend!

The Annie Oakley is cancelled as well (the women's only race): http://annieoakley.racesonline.com

Looks like the Wolfpack Tri got the axe too: http://wolfpacktriathlon.racesonline.com

There's a sprint/intermediate triathlon in Clarksville on August 23rd. Does anyone live around that area?

It all depends on how well an old foot injury holds up for me. After a few years off, I've managed one race so far. Had some recurring pain recently, but am trying to manage it with reduced run workouts (which stinks because that's where I need the most work). Left on the schedule I hope to do:

Fireball 5k (tonight)
West Side Y Tri
Springbrook Tri
Maybe the Atomic Sprint
Hal Canfield Memorial Mile
Anchor Splash (really looking forward to the reverse format)
Farragut Fal 5k

If I can make it through all those I will be thrilled. I'd love to meet some other forum triathletes at these if anyone else is participating.
