Wow! Ultra-Triathlons!

Not this series, but I crewed for my father in law in the Ultraman in Hawaii (somewhere between a double and triple) in 1989.

I was chatting with a fellow at the gym this morning after spin class. I was about to get in the pool and he asked about triathlons. He said he always wanted to do one, but only was really interested in those that were multiples of IM distance. This guy does ultra marathons and multi-day running races. He runs 4000 miles a year. He said he tried swimming 3 miles, but it took him 3 hours, so he's never signed up for one.

I felt pretty lame worrying about building up to the 10k run for an Oly. Oh, and he's 10 years older than me.

Last year I met a man while trail running that was training to do a Double IM on his 75th Birthday. I don't remember his name but he started doing IMs when he was my age (55) and has done 1-2 IMs a year for the last 20 years. Since he retired ten years ago he has finished the Leadville 100, Mountain States 100 and two Double IMs! Needless to say, he looked pretty darn fit for almost 75 years old.

They also come in deca- and double-deca IMs. Eileen steil did them (I can't remember if it was here, or TNO, where she posted, in addition to ST.)
