Hey everyone

I suspect I am not the only guy out here who has been told in his early 50s that he shouldn't run anymore: bone spurs, arthritis, steroids are the solution etc. Can anyone out there recommend a shoe that prolongs a running life? I have heard that Hoka One One are good for this. Thumbs up, thumbs down?

Thank you friends

Hoka One Ones have changed my life!!! I've gone from run walking to running an entire half marathon and at my last Ironman I shaved over an hour off of my marathon time. They take so much of the shock out of running it is incredible!

Injury prevtion can be done by a shoe or by slowly shanging your gait. I'm going to guess your a heel striking. I use to be a heel striker and it causes havoc on joints. I transitioned to a mid foot strike and it has taken alot of the injuries out. There are a few good books written about why mid foot stiking is better for your body. If your a technical person, read Anatomy for Runners, by Jay Dicharry.

I used Newtons sneakers for the transitions and continue to wear them now.

How do you transition from heel to mid foot strike? Sounds about as easy as changing your accent. Did you have a trainer?

A combination of Hokas and steroids (mild ones) solved the issue.

I just started using Hokas and love them!

Also I think I just started to learn how to actually use my hips while running....

I am experiencing hip flexor pain. I hurt it two weeks ago during a race and it's bothered me ever since. Do you have suggestions on how to prevent problems or how to cure it?

I didn’t used to like to run slow. You begin to recalibrate your needs and wants and if-only you could jog an easy two miles, three times per week. Running is a gift.

I decided that, after having a new hip put in 11 months ago, I needed a new lifestyle. Just wondering if there's anything that I should know about-especially for the running and biking.

During a "power yoga" session I noticed pain with hip adduction/internal rotation. Running and biking don't seem to bother it, as long as I don't push it. I still have achy pain with walking.

I have noticed an occasional pain in my left hip flexor. The pain is most noticeable when running uphill. Is there a way to fix the problem without taking time off from training?

Hip or pelvic pain is a common complaint for runners and can range from severe problems, such as stress fractures or arthritis, to mild problems, such as muscle strains or bursitis.
