Comments:

I ran strong and confident. It has been a long time since I have felt as such in a race. I was first masters until around mile 12 but I let a guy pass. I didn't realize he would end up being the Masters overall winner. Oh well, I'm really pleased with my effort and result. I never thought I would run competitively in a race again.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I am enjoying the journey and my return a it unfolds.
Post race
Warm down:

Changed clothes and waited for my girl - Mimi - who took 20 minutes off her previous best on this course.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I still am trying to lose weight. Hopefully the belly will slim soon.

Event comments:

Dick Dime's comeback from a smashed to bits brain continues!

I can train for half marathons on pavement and on trails, but as soon as I change it up to gravel or loose dirt my knee swells and the pain it causes is unreal. Any ideas why this happens?

I just ran the Boston Marathon under nine minute miles, can I run eight minute miles for my half Ironman training runs? Or should I go slower?

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

I thought of all the times I didn’t attempt something I wanted to do because I was too afraid of trying something new or of failing completely.

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

At one of my last swim sessions the week of my first Ironman, one of my training partners told me how she was envious..."your first Ironman is fun, you have no pressure and no expectations!"
