Not quite as dramatic, but my first phone number in college used to be a fax (or BBS) line. At random hours (night or day) I would calls with just a "beep, long pause, beep, etc." as some lonely machine tried to connect with another machine that no longer existed.

How sad.I hope that fax machine found a friend.

I think my cell number belonged to a young cute black girl. I used to get texts from nightclubs telling me I had a table and a bottle of champagne waiting for me. I should have gone.

Happy I don't know what day it is.

I have been busy running a Jishuken (Kaizen) event at work all week.

Warmest week we have had and my friends are out riding bikes and running and I am working 12-14 hours a day DAMN IT.

And worst part is I thought today was Friday. I could cry now that I know it is Thursday. Have a great day everyone

Sometimes when I was bored I would whistle back at the machine to trigger connection tones (think old modem static noises). Unfortunately I was not very fluent in the binary language of modems and never managed to engage in a meaningful conversation.

Hi TAN!!!  Thought I would drop in and see all my athletic virtual friends.  Reading through seems like the usual suspects remain, and I miss my days behind a desk (kind of).

What did I miss???  Any new rules?

You missed lots and lots of nothing.  Amazing how much there is of it.  I think no one even comes close to challenging the rules.  We have become conformists.  It's sad.

If you are not behind a desk, where are you now?

I see you've gone black - very unexpected

National sales for one of our newest product lines, so all over.   And just got my first international deal in Brazil and the life style is tough (definitely no more suit pics) but the money is good!

... and young and cute and female.  It has been quite a change.

Cool.  Geezerette #1 is in Brazil.  We are going there in a week for Grand Geezerette's birthday.  We will do Easter on the beach.  Brazilians know how to do the beach thing.  I recommend it when you go.  There are so many little beach towns.  It is not just Rio.

I'd LOVE to go to Florida, but alas... it's just not to be.  Pout.

We had a cat while I was growing up who would go completely bonkers for popcorn, or anything really salty.  Rice with soy sauce on it, pepperoni, salt out of the salt shaker.  They're such little weirdos.

Enjoy your weekend off!

My manager seemed genuinely happy for me - he kept saying what a great opportunity and great fit, you have to do what's best for you, we will figure it out here, etc. We went in together and told senior manager and VP together - senior manager seemed a bit shocked and actually disappointed (in the way a parent would be disappointed in their child), and VP seemed indifferent to the news but happy for me. Senior manager told me as he was leaving for the day "Congrats and I hope it turns out exactly as you hope" - bit of a weird statement but I won't read too much into it.

Congratulations.  I know this is something you have been looking forward to.

The best managers I knew took a great deal of satisfaction in the success of people they hired.  It makes the look smart and a good judge of talent that their hires go on to great things.

Either that or he is really glad to get rid of you.  (That's just for Kido's benefit.)

I shall be on a boat this evening too.  I had a minor mishap de-winterizing last weekend and managed to overheat the raw water impeller.  It was a hot mess.  (That's for Kido.)  I did not get a hose clamp all the way on the pump fitting.  The hose slipped off and the pump was sucking air (again, take note Kido).

That's all until next week folks.
