Hi,

I'm training for my first ultra's - a 50km at the end of March and a 50miler at the end of June. My questions is what should be my longest runs before each of them? I'm comfortable doing 25km in the mountains at the moment, will be hoping for a 30ish mountain run this weekend weather permitting!

Thanks

Graham

Here is a decent training plan where you can put in the distance and when the event is and it will spit out ya a plan

For my 50k I did two twenty mile runs. My second one did not go so well.

For the 50 miler my longest run was a 30 miler. I basically did long runs of 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 30, 24, 20, then tapered for 3 weeks. Not sure if that helps but it got me to the finish line which was all I was really hoping for.

Thanks - I'm at about 22miles now for a 50Km in 4wks, was planning on one more long one then taper off.
50mile in june so will start to build back up to that after a short recovery wk.

I only had 6 weeks to prepare, so I pushed myself pretty hard while I was training. After my first figure competition, my trainer had me take a week off just to rest and recoup. Was this needed?

Most of those thinking about tackling a long swim instinctively feel it’s necessary to Do much to build endurance - more yards, harder laps. But a focus on Receiving is ideal for long distances.

Near the end of one of my long runs, I noticed my left hip aching. There was a slight pop with each step. The hip was sore for 2 days after the run.

I recognize that my 45 minute jog Wednesday night does not really count as a ”long” run, but for me it was! Yesterday I felt fine…but man, today the legs are SORE.
