Subject: Heart rate monitor chest strap problem
Hello everyone,

I bought last year a Timex Global Trainer GPS watch as I wanted to train for a triathlon. I will get to finish one this summer! The watch is working fine, but I am having issues with the heart rate monitor. I am using the Timex Heart Rate monitor that came with the watch. However, I have a condition called Pectus excavatum, basically I have a hole in the chest where the chest strap sensor goes. If I try to move the sensor around, I get false reading (like 70bpm when it's actually around 140).

So I wanted to know:
1) Is there a way to make the sensor work properly?
2) If not, are there chest strap with sensors that does not need to be placed in the middle of the chest? And compatible with Timex Global Trainer?

Thank you for your help!

I never heard of that condition so sorry for my ignorance but all straps do tend to need to be on the chest area. Mine normally *starts* right below my breastbone but sometimes ends up mid-stomach on some endurance rides (mostly on bike rides since I'm hunched over). If you tighten it up, you may be able to get away with having it a less optional position like the stomach. Worth a shot.

Try sliding the strap around the side of your body or even to your back. Many HR straps will still pickup your HR just fine. Play with yours until you find the right spot. **Just remember to wet the strap before each use** as that helps it get a proper reading.

I started the process with clippers on my chest. Halfway through the process I realized that this shaving plan was probably not the brightest idea I have ever had in my life.
